How many have even HEARD of Eau Claire?

I've heard of Eau Claire... for the same reason I've heard of Coeur d'Alene, Ames, Adano, and Orono: because they fit really well into crossword puzzles. Couldn't find it on a map, though.

Someday I'd like to take a road trip and hit all the funny-named towns I've heard of in cartoons and songs... Sheboygan, Pocatello, Chattanooga, Kalamazoo, Hoboken, Walla-Walla, Albuquerque, and so on. It probably wouldn't be very exciting, except maybe as a photo-essay of me standing under all the "welcome-to" signs.

^ I've been to all of them except Walla Walla. I hope you have a chance to make such a trip, Swellegant. There's ALWAYS a good reason to take a "ROAD TRIP"!!!!

Try La Crosse. It has the most bars per capita in the entire world, with over 350 bars.

Maybe for a larger town/city...but I remember Shawano (pronounced, oddly, SHAW-no) being just loaded with bars. But maybe that's because it's in Wisconsin, where ANY town will be loaded with bars, LOL.

Wisconsin is the only place where I've ROUTINELY seen pubs way in the middle of nowhere in the country, which means that EVERYBODY who leaves there has to drive (drunk or not), if they don't sleep in their cars or walk for miles and miles...

^I've been to most of those places

I was in Eau Claire last February, July and August 2009. Mostly just driving through on the way to Chicago / Iola / Madison but we always stop and have something to eat.

We often stop at Randy's Restaurant off Hendrickson Drive over by the motel row. Yes, I know it's a Baptist place, but the food is good and cheap.

If I get to EC, I might wanna check that place out. Local places with cheap food ARE often the yummiest places in town.

IOLA? Did you have something to do with Krause Publications? There's NO other reason to go to Iola...ever. I've subscribed to periodicals from that place, LOL.

[EDIT] your quote -
Every year we go to the huge car show in Iola.

so I guess there ARE other reasons for people to go there, hehehe

I used to live in Shawano, I didn't think there were THAT many bars... (For a Wisconsin town, that is)

They mentioned it on the news today when the plane overshot MSP by 150 miles, and it turned around above you....

other than that, I got nothin' :p

Eau Claire was mentioned on the Simpsons last night!
