How many jubbers buy "Store Brand"food items

I'll buy store brand canned and frozen vegetables. Quite good, actually.

Anything else that's had more processing than that ... it's just not worth it. Why spend money on something I'll throw away because I don't like it?

Seems like Hellmann's is The Official Gay Mayonnaise.

Do they know that??

No, no, no. FRINKIES!

Lex

True story. I sent Lex to the grocery store to get fabric softener, amongst other things.

I am a complete whore to brands. I gave him a note that said, "I want DOWNYY... not Clowny, not Frowny... DOWNY!"

So, from that point on, any store brand item is called by it brand name with the first letters replaced with "Fr" from "Frowny"... so I use Benedryl, while Lex is fine with Frenedryl. I'll enjoy Bayer Aspirin, he'll have some Frayer. Even cheap crap has to have it's brand... I enjoy Spam, but Lex would settle for Fram.

(Edit - it wasn't till I posted this that I realized that Lex told the exact same story. However, it's nice to see he called me "fussy" in lieu of "label whore", what a nice guy)

I can't stand the stuff. I don't like Kraft mayo either. For me this is the only mayo that will do:

I don't mind certain store brand items, but some things just are never going to live up to the national brands.

Examples:

Ketchup--has to be Heinz.

Mayo-- see above

Peanut butter-- has to be Jif

Then there are some national brands that have been around forever and just lately don't seem to be the same at all.

Here's a perfect example:

I use to love this stuff growing up, but I found out that it was bought out by some big company and the recipe is "not" the original like the label still claims.

Picky, picky, picky. LOL.

I grew up on Skippy, but now I buy organic chunky peanut butter with nothing but peanuts and (maybe) salt. Even some organic PB's have palm oil added now, which is terrible for your health (and makes the PB taste like crap), so I skip those. I don't mind mixing if it's pure.

I find most organic brands are far more authentic than national brands that everyone knows. They've generally been dumbed down (i.e., made more bland) for the American consumer. IMHO.

Name brand or not, I'm not keen on Mayo of any kind. I find it...boring, bland, banal, unexciting, humdrum, lacking in flavour. Just plain snoozy to the ol' taste buds.
Never buy mayo myself. It just does nothing for me...and commercial white bread is so god damn tasteless and gummy I wouldn't eat it unless you paid me to...a hell of a lot. The store I work for always has big sales on some of their white bread or roll products, but the only thing I'll ever get is whole wheat or whole grain breads and rolls.....and there are none of those distributed by the store brand label.

Call me trash, but when I don't have money, I'll do some Publix store brand stuff. Even their sodas...except for Cherry Coke. Can't skimp on that.

*Kismet*
Call me trash, too, then.
'Cuz I am so grateful to Publix, except that they quit carrying my favorite thick yellow corn no-salt round chip. Their salsa is as good as Pace's, and I've never found a better peanut butter than Publix's Old Fashioned, Yeah, you have to stir, but it tastes like peanuts and not sugar! Buttwipe and Paper Towels I go with the Greenwise label. Bread (whole wheat) dairy, denture cleanser, box macaroni (and cheese) and linguine, trash bags, detegent...all (and maybe more) I buy Publix brand.

Elwood put his paw down about the dog food, though. We're currently trying brands. I fill his bowl up and that skinny greyhound mix will go days without eating. How do you say deafening for the nose? 'cuz that's what his flatulence is like...

Well...you know you're really from South Jersey when you stock up on ShopRite brand products at the "Can-Can Sale." And of course you know when the "Can-Can Sale" is.

right. my mayonnaise is Publix's as well - it just tastes fresher, actually.

but i only like one kind of grit - Dixie Lily White Pearl Hominy Grits.

If I want cornmeal mush, spoonbread, or polenta, i'll get coarse cornmeal - but grits are a different animal.

No quick-cooking or (the Force forfend) instant grits will do.

I once complained to the manager at Publix that they quit carrying my "slow" grits.
He looked shocked, and said that they refused product from Dixie Lily until they had cleaned up their act - customers were complaining about bits of bug in their meal. I actually whined: "I know it had bugs in it, I didn't care ..."

Also, the only Tahini Publix carries is Joya, which is CRAP! Hain was much better...
