2 children. I get sick of seeing poor people lugging around 5 and 6 kids and knowing that my taxes are paying their welfare checks. If there was no welfare, people would limit how many kids they have real fast.

As many as they can take care of. Who are we to tell people they can't have kids?

As much as I despised her; I do mention her a lot...

But my arch-nemesis of a high school teacher has about eight or nine kids right now, and I heard she has no plans of stopping.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again; We need to find and burn the nest people!

^I like the show too but Kate bitches at Jon to much.

Do you guys realize that many of you are supporting the idea that only the affluent should be allowed to procreate? Being able to support a kid is a judgment call and each of us have a different notion as to what amount of money that entails. To some, it means being able to afford the bare necessities. To others, it means being able to pay for each child's college fund. So, where are you guys drawing the line? Also, if you're crossing off druggies and smokers what about uneducated or less educated potential parents? Studies show that children with college educated parents score higher on tests and earn higher incomes later in life.

As far as I'm concerned if they can support them have at it and make some more

I always liked the idea that one of my professors had, and then I read about later in a novel. We each get a license to "replace" ourselves in this world--those who would like more children can buy a license off of those of us who don't wish to use ours. If someone who has sold his license later wants to have a child, he/she must then purchase a license from someone who does not want his.

but what would you do in the case of oops babies?

What's your opinion, Alpha?

I take it that three children, per couple is your opinion?
So, would a single person have 1.5 children or would coupledom be required before procreation could take place? No sperm donors in that world I suppose.

Well, I would have to find the novel and check again, but I believe they spent a great deal of money on education about sex, and also citizens were on birth control until they decided it was time to make use of their license.

Hey, I only said I liked the idea as it was presented at the time--I didn't say I'm going to run for president and make it happen. lol

As many as they want.

I think this is an area of individual choice, not a govt. dept.

Unclean, I just realized that the poll wasn't open so you couldn't see how I voted.

I'm pro Choice all the way--have or don't have, as many children as you so desire. Obviously, my opinion rests on the whole freedom issue. As a practical matter, it does annoy me that some individuals have litters of children on welfare and food stamps and free insurance. On the one hand, I think about theoretically sterilizing the fathers and mothers so that they will stop the cycle of poverty and lack of education and b/c I don't like paying higher taxes to support them. On the other hand, I realize that many, many children break the cycle and grow up to be fantastic citizens and well off kids from the best families can turn out to be society's deadliest predators. Plus, I think we tend to revere education as though it's this sacred, end all be all, necessary entity. My mechanic has a whole lot of knowledge that I'll never have, that I couldn't learn if I tried. But, I don't think he went to college. So, it really isn't logical to sift through the gene pool based on whether you have money, are educated, smoke, take drugs, etc. Personally, I will never have children b/c I don't want to deal w/ them.

As far as the whole argument, "limit procreation b/c, we're running out of resources," goes, it won't hold water either in my opinion. I'm twenty eight now and we've been running out of resources for as long as I can remember. My third grade science project was centered on our oil supply. We should all work towards conserving what we have and work towards more efficient technology but if all else fails and we really, really do run out of every resource available to us, then we'll be able to witness the Darwin theory first hand. Survival of the fittest! Maybe having loads of children will help in that circumstance. You'd have your very own platoon.

And yet the American government pours vast amounts of money into the welfare system to help people support kids they bring into the world knowing they cannot support.

What about that day off in the distance when we truly do face a serious overpopulation issue worldwide?

^Birth control is expensive and so are condoms. Just saying. Of course, your answer is going to be, "then don't have sex," but, let's try to be realistic here.

LOL Darlin, I'm on a gay porn site. I'm never going to say "don't have sex." :D

And again, I'm not saying I have all the answers, or that the two child system is necessarily the way to go. I said I always liked the idea when I heard it.

Do I really think that people who have 18 children, regardless of how selfish I think it is to bring that many people into a world already stressed for resources, are going to let any government tell them they can only have two? Of course not. I just think the idea of getting to replace yourself on this planet is an elegant one.

^ I get that. I posted the info b/c I am on a gay, male porn site. Most of you fellas have not really had to deal w/ birth control or paying for it. Really, it is expensive, and most insurance plans don't cover the type that works best for your body. And as a teen, it's damn near impossible to get birth control. I just wanted to add the info since I assumed you fellas wouldn't be that aware. Just saying.

Your perspective and knowledge are always appreciated by me, Alpha.

Thankfully, my life is blessed with female friends who have never been shy to let me know such things. God, I practically have an honorary vagina I know so much about them. I now have to explain to my parents what it means that one of my best friends wants me to be her Man of Honor at her wedding.

:-)

I don't really like kids. So I don't care. Although, people should support their kids.

WTF is up with those damn people who have 18 children or 8 kids at one time. Just stop. Close your damn legs!
