How Many Miles/km Are on Your Car

Currently a [Dodge] Ram 150 van, new 2013 model bought eighteen months ago, with 30,680 miles on it. By the end of May that mileage will be at least 34,000 I think. I expect at least 38,000 at the two-year mark on September 28. Yes, I drive a lot.

That doesn't count the 12,000 or so "flying" miles my body will accumulate this year before the end of May.

I have driven about 1¼ million miles in my lifetime.

I have a second hand car, bought it in 2011 with 36k miles on it. I've since done about 3.5k miles.

Depends on the vehicle, the use and the storage... a lot on the storage. I know that sounds weird but massive temp changes coupled with caked salt and road chemicals on body and suspension. Take that along with extreme cold on plastic components, and you have a long range of durability.


I HAD an excellent condition 2007 F150 with 165k on it until a toolbag in a PT Cruiser cashed it out. I still have a 2006 Mazda3 with almost 170 k on it. It is in excellent shape too...

On both vehicles, the only repairs I made that were not expendable parts like tires and brakes, were the drivers side window swtiches.

I had both vehicles from new and knew that the mantenance was done above requirements at all times. I think that makes a huge difference. The shake and vibration caused by running around with crappy shocks or struts causes other items to deteriorate much more quickly. I also cleaned and maintained the undercarriage. Some folks see that as vanity but clean things work better.

Finally I do a shit load of highway miles. Everything works better faster, the engine is cleaner, I think that leads to longevity in a vehicle.

Anyways those are my two cents.

I have a Dodge Intrepid with 138,000 on it, I bought it just for the purpose of driving to and from work about 8 mi. round trip.
I have only had it about 2 yrs, it replace my Town Car which had 178,000 (it was a 95).
We also have a PT Cruiser with 78,000 on it.
I have decided to never make another payment, for anything, so I will drive what I want to spend cash on, never more than $5,000.
I would rather make some repairs than pay interest to a bank, plus have to maintain full coverage insurance.
If I want to make a long distance trip I rent a car.

None, I'm too cool to have a car. I ride my bike everywhere or if its long distance hope on the train without a ticket and pray!

The old 1988 K Car now has 125K on it, it was bought new by my Grandparents. I took over it about 7 years ago and it had only 29K. Just put new brakes on it last year, runs OK (gas mileage sucks, though...only 25MPG for a 4 banger). It starts, gets me 21 miles to work one way, and 21 miles back. Once in a blue moon it goes a little farther. The A/C crapped out 3 years ago and I refuse to pay to get it fixed, it would need to be upgraded to the 'new' coolant and I just roll down the windows.

I've had a number of high mileage vehicles in the past, but still miss the old 1972 Volvo 145e. My family bought it used in 1973 with only 10K on the odometer; it retired in 1988 with 265K as the rust around the rear shocks had gotten so bad it was unrepairable. I took over it in 1983, and the old Battle Wagon took me on many adventures.

Mom bought a well-used 1974 164e with 145K on it when I got the wagon. She had the engine rebuilt and drove it until 1994 and parked it with 325K. It needs some lovin' but is still parked in her garage.

Mom currently is driving a '94 Toyota Tacoma that has in excess of 350K. The bright red paint is now sort of a muted rose color, there is plenty of rust (20 years of Upper Peninsula winters will do that) but I'm amazed she is still on the factory-original exhaust system. Most everything still works (half the dashboard lighting crapped out 10 years ago, but since she doesn't drive too very fast anymore, the speedometer is kind of superfluous anyway) so she is hanging on to it for now.
