  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How many PRIDEs have you been to?

Oh yes they do. Old or out of shape and you will find yourself in that category where only a good personality can save you.

Agreed. PRIDE is the only place I have been flirted with, but usually people either ignore me or say rude stuff to me. It is all about looks.

With that said screw he haters. Go and have fun. It's for you and those that will come later.

Incredibly, I've never been to one. I have no aversion to going to one. Just that I usually avoid significant travel in the summer, and I've never managed to be traveling to a place precisely when Pride is scheduled (AND when I'm also aware it's happening, no doubt I've had near-misses by not knowing). That will probably not change this year, but it may well change in 2018, in Chicago, where I hope to be living by that time.

I asked to have it changed a few days ago. When I reached 10,000 posts. I didn't think it mattered, so I don't know if people realize it or not.
I immediately noticed the name-not-seen-before and "Salem" and the 10,000+ posts, and I already had this "probably" figured out before I saw your pictures. (Of course, since we've met, the pictures did confirm what I thought.)

Portland's PRIDE is always Father's Day Weekend. Las Vegas PRIDE's festival and parade are held either in September or October and to be honest they have events years round.
That timing makes their event possibly more likely for me than most - but if September is within their parameters, no doubt theirs is still too early for me. Just because of the way things work with me, whenever I'm in Las Vegas it's almost invariably in the middle or last half of October.

So, like they do for Denver PrideFest... Portland PRIDE also picks the worst one of the 4 weekends in June
Ideally it should be done 1 week later, which would also put it closer to June 28 (day the Stonewall riots began)
That was, I believe, the reason that "traditional" Pride Weekends are the last weekend in June. Of course some places choose otherwise, whether to avoid concurrent conflicts with other nearby/regional events, occupancy or booking/permit dates already taken up by other events, or in the south the dates are often earlier, or MUCH later, because of climate.

Nice is having problems with their parade due to security problems following the tragedy last year.

I have always been working so I have never been to a parade. There are some possible dates for July or August so perhaps I will go this year.

Portland's PRIDE is on the waterfront. I think the reason it is Father's day weekend is it is the only weekend not booked for something. The waterfront is really busy during the summer months.
Totally makes sense. I also googled Portland Waterfront for pictures. looks like a really nice park there!
And oooh, they could do a boat parade (no idea if that actually happens, but that'd be different/cool)

I have no idea why they pick that weekend in Denver, maybe they have stuff going on on the other weekends too (I rarely go to the city, so I just don't know...matter of fact, last time I was down there was a year ago)

Yep that's my understanding as well, as to why end of June is "traditional" Pride time.
The other one (Boulder) I sometimes go to is in September, which seems way late (but that might be done purposely so students would be back at the university there).
I could totally understand southern states avoiding the hottest part of summer. Simply too hot

Luckily no-one's ever tried to flirt with me...
I would be one of those dull/boring/average people that is basically invisible in a crowd .lol.

Add one more to that count for today :rb:

Did you have fun? Have any pics to share?

My home care worker is being flaky so I don't know if I get to go to Portland PRIDE tomorrow or not.

Yep I did :)
I did take a few pic's & a couple short vid's ... I'll go through them later.
Might go back again tomorrow (don't know for sure since it is Father's Day afterall, and there may be family stuff..)

Hopefully you'll be able to go!

My annual photo with underwear models. And yes I know I have a fucked up "smile".

Here is a pic of an officer that rode with Dykes on Bikes. She got the crowd going.

Nope, never been to one even though I lived in areas where they have happened. I am not a fan of huge crowds or anything, so that's part of the reason I've never been.

I forgot to mention, that my younger brother (who is not gay) has been to more pride events than I have.

Those are AWESOME pics TickTock!

Wish I could have been there...

:):):)

I always thought Portland PRIDE was huge. Turns out it is not that big. I got to use my mobility scooter for the first time there this year and it took us less than an hour to see everything at the festival. In years past when I tried to walk it, it took 3 to 4 hours. It dawned on me that I first went to Portland PRIDE after I got hurt.

Cool!
Glad to hear you go to go then!
I've never taken pic's with any of the models/guys at Denver (& I don't remember Boulder having any)...
