Chapter 3
My daughter, Michelle, called my male friend and they set up a birthday dinner with my son (thought I had lost him when I came out) I had told Bob that Peter (my son) was a commercial fisherman and so Bob bought a book on Gloucester Fishermen. He and my son had a good conversation about the fishing industry at the dinner. Bob’s grandson Tom was up for the weekend and joined us. Bob dozen’t get to see Tom all that much as they live a couple of hours of highway driving away. Tom being the youngest one there 17, I think was involved to some degree in the conversations. The chemistry of the eight of us was great. It was just plain nice everyone very comfortable with each other, and the conversations were great.
As we were sitting in a rear room which was all nautical and I was sitting there wondering what Peter was thinking as in addition to Bob I had another close friend, Bill there too. At the time he didn't really know which of the two was my special friend if either one was.
My daughter spared no expense on the meal. I wanted to go to a low price place rather than this famous seafood place. But that is where we went. I will admit the food, the wait staff, the atmosphere was top draw.
Shortly after we left to go home Michelle called me to say that Peter wans't even out of the parking lot and he had called her to find out which was my boyfriend. Michelle had told him and they talked for a while. The best thing that came out of the day is Peter was in agreement, and feels the same as Michelle, they are okay with their gay dad getting on with his new life. For the record I had been with my x wife a total of 40 years before the divorce. Peter and Michelle are 35 and 33.
A little later that night Peter called me personally to tell me what he told his sister.
That meant so much to me. Best damn birthday present any parent would love.
He added that he wouldn't mind doing that again.
How much better can it get.
