Hey all,
Something a few of you have Prob dealt with in the past regarding texting.

Basically in a situation at the moment where I have met someone and the signs are all there and the only issue I see is the delays in responding to texts.

We have seen each other 5 or 6 times he always goes through with plans, he had never canceled them and even canceled other plans to hang with me last Sat night.

So we always seems to have a good time but there is pretty much no texting in between meeting which is usually once or twice a week.
When I do text him to confirm plans he seems to only respond at the end of his day. So there are often hours of delays between a question and a response. He doesn't seem to respond when at work or when out.

How would you guys read into that?
Now when he is with me he never seems to look at his phone and the other night before we went to sleep he responded to a txt from his brother which he must have received earlier so it is consistent but still seems a bit odd.

Hey Ratmac,

He sounds like one of the few who doesn't feel the need to answer by texting immediately. Sounds like he is more into the physical touch rather than a wifi guy. Our world have become so fast with technology that a great majority of people can't let a phone ring or a text beep without interrupting a possible conversation with someone. What happened to the closeness felt by the physical contact? Even a phone call seems more personal than a text. If this is your main complaint about someone who changed other plans just to hang with you, send him my way. Obviously he is interested in you. You need to ask him if texting isn't his main thing. That would clarify the whole situation for you. I wouldn't read anything into his not texting immediately other than he perhaps has more pressing things on his mind. If you like him, compromise with this little "fault" and enjoy his physical company. My best to you (and him).

I manage people at work. When people are at work, I expect them to be WORKING to earn their pay. Unless it is an emergency, constant personal texting at work is unprofessional.

Sounds like he does not let electronic gadgets run his life. Neither do I. Work takes priority (except for emergencies) while at work. Don't be a clinger...or you will push him away.

It sounds like he uses technology in a healthy way and that you don't. Like Hunter said, don't be clingy. It's a turnoff.

Sounds like he a is a well adjusted human being that does not consider text a vital way to communicate. Communication is 10% words and 90% context and delivery...meaning you can't convey body language or emotion when delivering your words short of a stupid round rolling face!

Try calling him...its this new feature that phones can do now!

Thanks guys, This has helped me.

I think I was just concerned that not contacting me through text may have shown lack of interest but I need to focus on the fact that he keeps coming around when he says he will and has never cancelled plans on me shows a decent level of interest.

Last night when he was over he received a call and just let it ring so I guess what you guys are saying is right, he is not a tech addict like so many which I personally like because when we are together there is no phones out like a few people I know.

Some people actually communicate without an omnipresent electronic device. If all else with him is normal, then he's the healthy one. :)

^QFT Of course we chide him on use of electronic devices and then turn around and utilize techno shorthand.....

Quite the opposite. It's a salient reminder that if someone is in your bed, you should know how they feel.

A screen will never tell you what your heart should know.

I do not question you on the above, I just wonder why we resort to techno shorthand when it could be written out. There is so much in this world that is abbreviated and those of us that are not texting literate have no idea what has been referred to. Sorry for being so slow in this modern world.

Well, because it is an online forum. It's one of the few that I personally use because the tendency in forums is to think that everyone is arguing against a point. QFT makes it clear that one is agreeing or expanding upon something that was said earlier.

Contrast with terms like 'u', 'ur', 'r u', etc- these are more in the "techno shorthand' mold.

But it's no different that verbal terms like FUBAR, WMD, NYC, POTUS, etc that are used in verbal or written communication...

OMG! WTF! LOL! :slap:

This is a question for him. It's not wise to guess or mind read. Relationships thrive on face to face communication, questions and answers, discussions and, yes, even healthy arguments.

Sorry, I was trying for a little humor. Obviously it didn't work well.

But it makes the point, doesn't it? Written communication often falls short when compared to in-person interactions.

There's a reason that humans have communicated face-to-face, eye-to-eye for millenia. OP is looking for something... and maybe it's not a few random words on a screen that will reassure him?

I think in this day and age we are used of text and communicating through this medium is a way of saying that I'm still thinking of you.
I was concerned that maybe the lack of txt was showing a lack of interest (it's been a sign in the past) however his behaviour is consistent and his actions when he is with me show me otherwise.

There is a bit more to it cause it all started as a hookup and now when we see each other we are always spending time together, have dinner watch a movie while cuddled up in bed and I can't imagine someone would continue to do that if there was no interest.

Regarding the txt as I mentioned it does not bother me if that is the way he is (which it seems) I was just wanting to see others thoughts about it.
People on this forum are usually spot on with a lot of things and especially when it's things you don't want to hear.

Thanks again guys.
