I read that if you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated. I try to drink eight 8-oz. glasses of water every day, but most days I can only do six. How about you?

I can't really see the value of consuming water. I never drink water. I prefer coffee and Coke. It hasn't been a problem.

I drink more than 8 glasses a day. In fact, water is about all I drink! I used to drink Diet Coke LIKE it was water, as well as beer, vodka, etc. Not that I was a lush or anything, but I used to party my ass off on the weekends... :) Guess my kidney health issue would have to be a deciding factor (duh?) in my lifestyle change... nothing but water and tea for me, thank you.

You know you can die from water poisoning...

I drink a bottle of water before bed every nite. And I don't wet the bed, so don't even ask! ;)

I think I drink about 8 glasses a day, maybe more, but honestly don't know. I'm always walking around with a water bottle, especially when I'm working. Of course, I live in Florida where it is warm most of the time and drinking a lot of water is almost mandatory, especially in the brutal summer heat, to stay hydrated. I also drink a lot of juices (apple, cranberry, orange) and then there are my morning coffees, iced tea at lunch and maybe dinner (or dinner wine) and, of course, Happy Hour, when I go out.

I drink a lot of juice but rarely drink water

Drink water when you're thirsty, the whole "8 glasses a day" is a lie! Our bodies are very smart :) we're thirsty when we need more, and we pee when we've had too much.

I drink alot of water I try to get as mich water as I can I also like orange juice and milk and alittle bit of pop but I want to be healthy and thats what water does for you LOL

I read you should drink half your body weight in ounces. If you weigh 150 lbs you should drink 75 oz of water per day. That is about what I drink a day including a few green teas.

That's what the sports medicine guy in college said. Green tea would count, BTW, if unsugared.
And for beer and soda, every two ounces you drink sets you back an ounce on the water -- you're actually losing ground with those!

I add XS energy drink to two liters of water just enough to get the flavor, and drink a half gallon of that minimum in a day; on an active day, it can be three half-gallon jugs.

When I stick to that, I sleep better, get fewer headaches, wake up more alert, and a few other benefits.

Interestingly, it's much easier to lose weight when you're drinking the right amount of water!

BTW, if you're not drinking that much water and want to, don't make the jump all at once; your body won't know what to do with it. Spend two weeks working up to it.

That's not a good time of day to drink that much!

Your body sleeps and rests better if you don't drink anything within 2 hours of going to sleep, and if whatever you drink after dinner is predominantly water.

If you've been out drinking at a bar or whatever, ignore this rule -- chug the water! It's better to over-hydrate than to let alcohol dominate your metabolism; getting rid of alcohol ruins your rest, and takes a LOT of water (3x as much water as alcohol, by volume, and the water in your bar drink doesn't count, IIRC).

About a gallon a day during the cold months

probably more like 1-2 quarts a day in the warm months

that probably averages to about 8 glasses a day (assuming the glass is something like 12 ounces or 1/3 liter)

depends on day to day, if im drinking or hung over, ill have more then 20 but if not, sometimes i have 1 every dy or so and drink juice or something instead.

Talk to a urologist. Everyone should be drinking between 2 liters and a gallon of water a day. It flushes out toxins that remain in your kidneys. Coffee, tea and sodas contribute to those toxins, they don't help remove them.

Take it from me, two weeks of kidney stone pain will teach you a lot...|

Edit: BTW Kul is right. I'd start slow and build up over a couple weeks. I was peeing every 15 minutes when I started drinking a gallon a day. It took several weeks for my bladder to get used to the added liquid. Ever hear of exploding bladder syndrome?
