The option of self-checkout has been available for a few years already.

I've never used it ever.

I always have checked out with a cashier.

I use them occasionally if (a) there are queues for the cashiers, (b) I want to be quick and (c) I only have a few things.

as often as possible. ..| i can get my shopping done in less than a minute. i like to get in and out of the store as soon as possible. i'm not a fan of shopping. i also love how the voice of the computer sounds and doesn't give me an attitude when talking to me. if people were robots, the world would be a better place. :D

I never use the self-checkout at the grocery store.

It's really annoying because you have to bag your own groceries too. And sometimes it won't give you change in dollar bills if you use cash.

If you go through the cashier, the cashier or sometimes another person bags your groceries for you. In some upscale grocery stores, they even offer to help carry it out to your car.

I think its better for grocery stores to have "express lanes" for people who have less than 10 or 15 items.

wow.

two things.

1. where do you shop at that you don't get cash back from the machine when you put dollars in?

2. you really can't bag your groceries on your own? lazy ass.

I use them all the time if they're available, as I'm a sociopath.

another  moment.

I used to.

And then I thought--wait, I'm paying premium prices at this premium grocery store and they can't hire another cashier? Screw that.

A lot of people have the same attitude, because they are rarely used.

Also what jobs will people have if everything is automated?

None.

speaking as someone that works in customer service, i think it's better if machines were to take the place of customer service reps for the customers sake just so people can have it their way.

i'm sure after dealing with those computers for a time being, people will start to look at themselves for a second. it's easy to not see the errors of your ways when other people have to deal with you where you could put the blame on them. you can't blame anybody for making a mistake with your order when you do it yourself. serves them right too.

If I have fewer than 10 items, then yes I will always use the self check out lane. It annoys me though when I see people with more than 20 items get into the self check line...because usually they are older women who still have no clue about today's technology. And then they get confused with the robot telling them what to do.

Always.
I can't stand staying in the queue for more than 2 minutes, and the self checkout are usually free since the old folks (the ones who usually hold the queue) do not know how to use them.

Self-checkout? I do it ALL THE TIME! I check myself out every time I walk by a mirror..even the double sided mirror for them to monitor shoplifters.

I see your point, but you'd be surprised how some people can project their own issues onto someone else--yes, even onto a computer/robot.

Just ask my ex-wife.

You sound fabulous!

Theyve all disappeared around here, i can only imagine why. Theft is probably painfully easy.

Always. I do a much better job bagging my own stuff than a person who is getting paid near minimum wage to do it for me.
