  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How old were you the first time you saw a play?

A play? I am gay so it was musicals for me. ;)

There were the Christmas pantomimes from a very early age. Then when I was 18 went up to London for the first time in my young life with tickets for "Hair".

I don't remember.

My Mother was the Director of a local Community Theater group. I do remember quietly reading books at the back of the Theater during rehearsals.

She was also pregnant with me when she was the Theater Director for the High School where she was teaching, so does that count?

It was a high school production of "You Can't Take It With You." I was in the 6th grade. I remember it so well because at the end of the play the high school principal came out and announced that they had just heard that President Kennedy had been shot.

My godmother took me to see a pantomime every year starting around 5 I guess.

First proper thing was probably more around 8, when I started going to local productions by a friend of my parents - I think it was The Tempest.

I saw Rumpelstiltskin at a puppet show at this park in San Jose when I was in 2nd grade...maybe 10 times...it finally occurred to me that they showed the same story every week and I got tired of it...

I was young--probably 5---by 7 or 8 was taken to Broadway shows once a year or so.

Pantomimes are particular to England aren't they?

I don't seemed to have heard of them being part of Christmas in any other parts of the world.

I would think that the great majority of children have all been to see one; if not with their parents then with the school.

Oh no they haven't!

;)

I was 6, and I was in it!
It was my first grade production of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears."
I was a narrator, and Baby Bear's understudy.
I got to be Baby Bear when we had performed it at another school. (my first road show!)

The first production where I was simply an audience member was a performance of "Alice in Wonderland" done by a local community children's theater group. Since I had already been in a production, I was critiquing their show based on my own experiences. :D

December 1985, Las Palmas Theater, The Normal Heart. HBO's version was very visual, but back then all we had was the actors we could see. It was an experience I will never forget.
