  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How old were you the first time you saw a play?

My brother played Linus in the local production of "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown". He was maybe 7, so I was 4 or 5.

I was in a Christmas play at school in either the first or second grade. I probably watched a school play a few years later, I don't remember.

I suppose most children in the United Kingdom saw their first stage production in the form of the annual school "Nativity".

Maybe, but that is also panto time - so its a battle for what they see. Also they make as many as the kids as possible star in school play - I think I was in the chorus at 5/6, then a King before I transitioned to playing in the "orchestra" rather than the play.

Counting the ones at school? Kindergarten. I saw Hamlet at a "real" theatre when I was 18 though.

At a theatre, when I was in junior high. I can't remember what the play was, but probably some Shakespeare dreck or other that had been shoved down our throats in school.

I think around 8 or 9. When in grade school they took us to a local college to see Alice in Wonderland. I remember that the girl dress as the turtle scared the crap out of me.

School for Scandal, when I was perhaps 15 years old.

I wasn't quite ready to appreciate it yet.

I don't guarantee that was the first, as someone in this thread brought up school Nativity plays. It's very probable I saw one or more of those far earlier.

I think I was 6 when I starred in my first school play.

Around age 10, I played God in a production of Cain and Abel. Talk about a leading role!

I don't remember exactly. They used to take people on theater trips in primary school.

Can't remember how old I was when I first saw a pantomime but I saw the gorgeous red headed Nathan Rigg in a pair of buttock hugging tights recently and that day definitely went down in the diary!😈😈😈

I really can't say for sure, but it would probably have been elementary school. We lived near a small university, and I know my parents would sometimes take me to kid friendly cultural events there, which I'd guess probably included plays, although I don't remember anything specific. I also recall a trip there for something with my class once--very possibly a play.

My area got a theater group that might have been professional--or close to that. I remember us going to a few plays there, probably starting when I was 12 or 13.

Probably 14 when I saw my first Shakwspearean play in Stratford. Anything I saw before that really never counted because they were amateur theatricals.

My first play was a musical put on by the junior college where my father taught when I was probably about 6 or 7. I was there with my parents. The only thing I remember about it was a young woman singing a song about love makes the world go round and thinking “That’s not true!”
