How stupid and immoral is [Halloween?]

I was sort of surprised that no one mentioned the belief that on Halloween, the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is the thinnest, and that spirits of the deceased may be able to return briefly. I've never been able to find a source that said this in so many words, but to me it seems that the whole tradition of wearing disguises would imply that people were afraid that some spirits could harm them, so they didn't want to be recognized.

Though in the modern new age- influenced world, there seems to be more a feeling of wanting to welcome the spirits of the deceased. As for me, I'd love to meet up with deceased loved ones or friends. Hey, let's have lunch. What, food does nothing for you now? OK, let's just chat in my living room..
I'd just want to play with all my dead pets.
