Even if you have some money stashed, do you pretend to be broke?

With other people i'm very tight, with myself i'm very generous.

I've never pretended to be broke except to get out of giving moochers money or buying them lunch.

I'm so tight I squeak when I walk.

I down play my status because I know that it is fluid and can change in an instant and different people have different ideas about how to spend money and what constitutes wealth. I probably give off conflicting ideas. Maybe that is how I feel too, not sure where I stand.

I hate people who always pretend they are broke. I know we live in a society where it is fashionable to complain you are broke all the time. And if you don't pretend you are broke, then surely you must be bragging.

I don't need to pretend I'm broke to deal with moochers and leeches. I just tell them NO.

Use your imagination. I've only been fucked twice, over a decade ago, my current bf has yet to.... oh wait.

No I don't pretend to be broke but I am careful with my money. My biggest fear is not that I haven't saved enough but that the stock market will take it away.

I'm not tight but frugal.
I avoid buying cheap but spend time to find the best (or better at least) for the least money.
Buying cheap, in most cases, is like throwing good money after bad except for the odd tool box item that will seldom see any use.

This is a motto of a Mexican friend. I consider him my adviser. "If it isn't food or it won't increase in value, you don't need it." It has literally changed my life.

I'm good. I keep away from social constructs.

And this.

When a relative died in another state a family member asked if I needed assistance to get to the funeral. I had money in a savings account, but I guess I project an image of living on the edge. My car is over 20 years old, I bought it new and have little trouble with it, so why replace it? I sort of run my home like a business, money is accounted for.

As I get older, I spend less...but not because I'm tight or need to.

I try to make sure though that we don't become one of those penny pinching couples, always projecting an aura of meanness and penury when we comfortable and able to be generous with those who need help or would enjoy an experience now instead of when lawyers carve up an estate.

This. Post. Is. Life.

I'm one of those who actually HATE money! Money doesn't care who does, or doesn't have it. Money can make good people do bad things. I agree that, "Money is the root of all evil." Money is absolutely worthless until it is used for something. (And, I wish I had so much of it that I didn't have to be concerned about it, but that is not the practical case.)

I do my best to live within my means. I don't go out a lot, or have to have the latest things. I'm not interested in accumulating stuff. I do enjoy good deals when I see them for something I need. However, I will not go out of my way in search of cheaper gasoline, to use a given coupon on something I can do without, or spend much time hunting down a lower price. Time is more valuable.

I will help others out, and treat friends to lunch or something, when and where I can. People are more valuable.

I pay my bills on time, and mostly (but not always) pay off the credit cards every month. (I no longer carry cash.) Peace of mind is more valuable.

I refuse to do anything merely for the sake of money. Money is a tool, not a goal. Integrity is more valuable.

I earn more than I spend each month, so I have no need to be tight. If it was the other way round, I expect things would be different.
