One thing I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is that silicone lube should not be used with silicone toys as the lube can dissolve the toy.
Another thing I'd like to add to the discussion is personal preference; my partner and I stick to water-based lubes because he finds the silicone ones to be too slippery. The lack of friction he experiences makes his penis feel numb stopping him from enjoying anal sex.
Finally, and this may sound obvious; clean the floor very well if you ever spill silicone lube, because it is extremely slippery on hard floors. I know, because I've slipped on a stain once and that was a painful demonstration I wouldn't care to repeat ;-)
