How to fix my bad avatar

I don't know if I should have started here, but as you can plainly see my avatar is blurry and pixelated. How can I make it clearer?
I basically took a larger pic off a website, shrunk it in microsoft word and saved it with paint as a jpeg. Any suggestions on maybe a program to use or a quick fix would be appreciated. Thanks.

if you could post the original image or PM it to me, I'll be able to resize it.

I'm guessing you're using Windows... but if you're using a Mac, ImageWell is a freeware programme that allows you to resize images.

Yeah, probably using Word to resize (which is optimized for displaying images of a given size within a document, not really designed as a graphics manipulation tool for re-saving the image) caused some quality issues, and it's surprisingly easy for Paint to distort images.

Try GIMP out. Previously I've used Adobe Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro and having tried GIMP in the last month, it's quite comparable and does a nice job resizing images as well as all sorts of other graphic functions. You can specify your pixel width desired and it'll of course keep the X and Y in perspective.

Yes I heard that Polka is now the latest thing with the young crowd these days, but thanks for the thread. I was wondering how to fix the same problem i was having on another forum.
