How to live in New York city

not a very positive picture of life in NYC. I never lived in the city proper, but I've lived adjacent to it for the better part of my entire life. It's expensive here, but hey, it's NYC, the capital of the world and the city that never sleeps. If you wanna play.....guess what....you pay.....

I was thinking about moving into the city. I have my eyes on Brooklyn though (Williamsburg and Greenpoint areas). No Manhattan realty until I hit the jackpot.

Eat bad pizza but trick yourself into believing it’s good because it’s made in New York. Do the same thing with bagels and sex.

QFT - New Yorkers know nothing about pizza.

Living in any large city costs big bucks. That's just the way it is. I never thought New York was any worse than San Francisco or Chicago and I've lived in all three and loved them all... even though I was broke most of the time just paying for basic living expenses. Maybe that's why I'm in Florida. You get more bang for the buck here and there's never a shortage of hot gay men... so I'm happy!

I kinda blame all these transplants who come here and live on credit card debt to fulfill their dreamy NYC life. These transplants are still driving up the rents in shitty parts of Brooklyn where developers are turning rotten buildings into "green" "luxury" apartments/condos. It's unfortunate that Manhattan is center of gay life because of the expense that comes with having a social life there.

When you have Lincoln Center in your city you can disparage New York. Until then you might want to review your thoughts. And I don't know if it's still there but that little restaurant opposite Lincoln Center after the opera served the greatest "pizzells.

I Love New York.

love the city , my friends and i go a couple of times a year just to wander and EAT , there are no really descent restaurants in phoenix to note... cost of living is crazy there, have one friend that live there, he has 620 square foot place ..1900 a month !!!! my house is 3200 square and 640 mortgage lol

Chicago and New York are the only American cities I see myself visiting. Will get to them one day.

haha I already knew all of that.

And I STILL want to live there one day. :D

You would think that would be common sense for people.

Because you want to meet strange people all the time ?

In the movie, it looks like everything food is free.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I wanted to talk about where I live. I live in Cincinnati, and I LOVE the pizza here. There's a place about a half hour away, (it also has one location across the river in Northern Kentucky) with the greatest pizza. It was started by Greek immigrants. There's another one called LaRosa's, which was started by an Italian family. It's kind of a fancy Italian place, they serve wine, etc. But they're best known for their pizza.

If you want a really uniquely Cincinnati food, try our Cincinnati style chili. There're two main chains Skyline (which has rather sweet chili, which sucks) and GoldStar (which has awesome chili). There're also a few small restaurants that have their own brand of chili. I dislike them, but cheese coneys are really popular. My favorite is the 3 way (not a sex thing, haha): Chili over spaghetti, with beans (or onion, I get beans though) and shredded cheese on top.

My biggest issue with the city of Cincinnati is the utter lack of public transportation options. Now, we only have buses. At one time, we had a streetcar system, but it was dismantled in the 1950s. In February, they broke ground on a new streetcar system. I'm really psyched about it. Phase I will open in 2013 at the earliest.

Very few people (even within the city) know this, but Cincinnati has a subway system. It was built just before WWII, but abandoned before it was completed. No train ever ran on those tracks. The tunnels have to be maintained though b/c they support some streets in the city. There's talk of installing high speed rail connecting Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati (called the 3C project for obvious reasons). So far, this is only talk. Not even in the planning stages. Our governor is very much against public transportation.

This is what happens when people who think they're "meant to be in the city" move to the city.

Manhattan is great for the kind of people who actually like city life - it's where I'm from and where I'm moving back to once I'm out of school (especially since my marriage will be recognized by the government there too).

Well if you decide to judge a city with 8 million perspectives from some shitty web link, you don't deserve to live here.

And Looseliam, what Pizza are you eating? NY pizza is awesome!

NY pizza is so amazing. This person probably probably didn't even go to a legit pizzeria.

LIES!

so the message is, if you don't have money,
forget about living in that city.

Tell that to all the happy young gay boys living in Hells Kitchen and the East Village who do just fine with not a dollar in their pockets
