I somehow got the W32.Netsky.gen@mm worm on my computer, and I don't know how to get rid of it. I've done a spyware sweep, as well as a virus sweep, and neither have removed it. Does anyone know how to remove it? Is there somethind I need to download to get rid of it? It's really frustrating, especially since my virus definitions are up to date.

Thanks for your help!

Have you tried searching Google and the Symantec website for "W32.Netsky.gen@mm"? They will usually have specific removal instructions for you. I'm sure someone here will end up looking it up for you, but you can get the info yourself from either googling it, or going to the Symantec website....

Thanks noelie, but that fix is not for the particular varient i have.

Should I email symantec, and ask about a fix? I do have an updated virus program (symantec), so you'd think it would catch it.......

according to MacAfee, the name you listed is the name they use for the same virus that noelie provided links to removal tools. did you try it by chance and it didn't work or did you think that maybe since the name was not the same it wouldn't work? if it was the later, i would try it anyway and see if ya have any luck.

also symantic says this: "W32.Netsky.gen@mm is a generic detection that detects variants of W32.Netsky@mm."

I tired running the removal tool on both regular mode, and in safe mode, and neither time did it catch anything. But each time I reboot, my symantec antivirus manages to pick it up, but each time I try to remove it, it keeps coming back. For some reason, it doesn't catch it in safe mode.

Could the system restore feature have something to do with it? I am trying another removal tool that my brother found.

well i believe you are supposed to turn off system restore prior to trying a removal so i would think that yes that's possible. try turning off system restore, reboot to safe mode, run the tool, then restart again. you should then be able to turn system restore back on.
