HI

OK I have now installed Skype. someone has just sent me a file. When i went to 'save as' i got a warning that files should really be scanned. I am with AVG. Please can you tell me how I manually scan this file? thanks:(

oh god, have i asked something really obvious? It is very urgent question. can noone help me?

I cannot help cuz i dont use AVG

However, my Symantec AV will auto scan a file as it is DLing onto HD. Maybe AVG will too.

Errr, as i understand it, any decent AV software has some kind of real time file scanning built in, so that anything written to your HDD is scanned for binary virus signatures at the time of writing.

i don't have skype, but i do have AVG. as proven said, it will scan files as actively so you shouldn't need to scan it separately per say.

if you double click the little AVG icon down by your clock, you'll see a list of things that are enabled. it should say "resident shield is loaded and fully functional." that should be it. i think you are good to go.

sorry it took so long to reply, i just got home. :(

if you have agv free edition go to the test centre area and click scan seleted area then pick area to be scaned
