How's your summer reading going? What have you read so far/summer 2017?

I
don't do NaNo because it doesn't really fit my mindset. That thing I sent you (yes, that's the book) was the first thing I wrote in about five years. The muse just wasn't there. I suppose I could have tried to find something to write about, and then tried to crank it out before November ended ...but why? Writing is a pleasurable hobby for me, not a job. And when there's no story in me, I see little point in trying to manufacture one. When the muse visits, it's the exact opposite - I can't NOT write. Sometimes I've got three stories in me dying to get out, and other times I have zero. And when it's the latter, I'll just let things bounce around in my brain until I can't not write again.

And appreciate the offer but this is a solo gig, I think. It's neither grammatical nor plot-driven (although finding minor issues there). It's just "punching it up". Making the character come alive more, making the basic narrative leaner and meaner to read. Dull but it IS sounding better on the other side.

Sorry 'bout that, forgot you don't enjoy the proscription of nano. I drop those myself, mostly I just steal the month and the timing schedule, the 'how to write' insistence I can't use. Tried those techniques before, both solo and group, didn't turn out well.

And that was a - grand - book!

Don't forget about me...I'm a voracious and fairly nondiscriminate reader. And I do read books by people I know. I am reading Gettysburg: The Last Invasion, by Allen Guelzo, who was a friend of mine in high school. The book has great acclaim so he doesn't need my support...but so far I really like his attention to detail and his choice of who and what to feature.

Full Service by Scotty Bowers.

Hollywood and the secret sex lives of the stars, most of it is made up fantasy, enjoyable light reading though.

I read this a couple of years ago, Seth. It was fascinating to learn just how many "names" swung both ways! :D
