Huge crush on cashier boy - need advice!

So I have a HUGE crush on this cashier who works at a local coffee shop. He's just the cutest thing. I think he might be gay or at least bi. But then again he might not - most people are straight so the odds are against me...

Anyway, I'm in there somewhat often and we've made small talk, but haven't really made a connection beyond that. It's always so busy in there you really can't talk to the cashiers without holding up the rest of the line. Problem is I really like this guy and want to get to know him!

So I'm seeking advice. I guess my problem is two-fold:
1. Is he gay?
2. How to get to know him?

Surely some of you have crushed on someone who is sort of inaccessible like this yet you see on a regular basis. How have you been able to break that barrier? And, how can you find out if a guy is gay or not in a situation like this?

I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks!

hi tbp1000,

Make some small compliments about a particular item of him (clothes) when you pay your bill. Give him a compliment about his new hairstyle when you see that he has visited the hairdresser.

More bold gay guys will make more obvious compliments when paying the bill. Eg about the eyes of the cashier (or whatever). Straight guys won't tell a male cashier that he has nice eyes (or whatever).

Please be aware that loads of straight guys with a job like a cashier are very kind / friendly / good looking (etc). No idea how you can find out if he is gay. Much better to let him know that you are gay, and see how he is reacting.

Are you open and out?

Feel free to react and good luck.

tbp1000:
"1. Is he gay?"

You could ask him but that might be a bit too forward and put him out especially for a guy being asked in a visible setting like that.
You could wear something descriptive of your being gay... a t-shirt with rainbow flag or pin, perhaps. That is if you're out! :)

"2. How to get to know him?"

Obviously, number 1 would have to be accomplished first. Unless you want to keep buying stuff and lining up just to get a few more tidbits of info.

Good luck! :)

Next time you go to pay instead of paying by credit card if you normally do, hand him cash with a folded up piece of paper with your number on it and surreptitiously ask him to call you. If he calls he calls, if he doesn't he doesn't.

Great advice, let him know YOU are gay.

The number in the folded $$$$ is rather direct, IMO. I'd play it a bit cool and flirt a bit before you do something so drastic. If it were me working at a coffee shop, a customer giving me his number MIGHT creep me out a bit, especially if he hadn't been flirting with me beforehand.

Best bet is to go into that coffee shop when its not busy and talk to the man a bit, flirt a bit, see if he's interested. Hell settle down for a bit in there, make eye contact, engage him for a while when he's not busy or on break.

I've worked a service job or two, and I can recall being on autopilot most of the time--friendly/polite, but there's always that barrier. Whenever somebody flirted with me, I either didn't notice until afterwards, or was quick to dismiss it because of the setting.

Is tipping customary? That's something that will make you stand out.

Try engaging him in more personal conversation.

Yes.

Do you have a job? What kind of job? Do you deal with customers? How would you want to be hit on if it was someone coming into your work?
