the lecture today was about sexual orientation, and as we went through the lecture, it was silent. DEAFENINGLY silent. I was amused because when my professor would try engage the class in discussion, it seemed like she had to "beg" for people to respond.

finally, me and this other girl (who turned out to be the only other homosexual in class other than me) broke the ice and started offering opinions and such. think that turned out a lot better, LOL. I think the girl and i had the same thought process, wherein we wanted to hear what other people had to say first before responding in kind.

so, in effect, we both came out to our entire class. I'll let you guys know more after next tuesday's continuation.

........wait, so does this count as a coming out thread too? LOL :D

Sounds like you and your friend did a superb job in your college class today. My guess is your professor was very impressed by the actions of both of you and the contributions you made to her class and presentation.

A guess, just a mere guess, but I have a feeling the next time your class meets your professor is going to want to continue the presentation, discussion that was started today. I just don't think she will let this opportunity pass.

Bravo.

I guess it would be a coming out thread. I wish I had a class like that. But they don't offer it at the College I go to.

Wow

that took some balls

You have impressed me in ways that JUBbers arent usually capable of.

That Rocks !!!

dkonfrost-

It's amazing how this topic always silences the sexuality classes. I had a similar experience my first year at OSU.

"Uhmm, well, my experience has been..." all 200 students turned to stare at me. GULP!

mikey

The prof. has talked about homosexuality in both my psych class and soc. class and it was far from silent. I remember when my soc. prof was talking about what makes people gay a couple weeks ago and quite a few people had questions. Same thing happened in my psych class. I guess that's Canada for you, even when you're going to a university in a fairly conservative city.

wish we had those classes at my uni. they would b so interesting, hahaha i wish they had them in my law degree, all the law students would freak out i mean when we covered sexual offenses in Criminal law they were all so embarissed and were making lame jokes and laughing, especially the girls.

hey guys! Thanks for the well-wishes!

Croynan - didn't really throw too much info out there, the girl and i just stated our opinions on a subject, and made a personal analogy that pretty much had me saying, "I'm gay"

Brandon - i'm surprised they dont offer at least some sort of class on sexuality. or some form of sociology class dealing with sexual issues in general

Andreus - thank you! you're so sweet! (*8*)

okstatecowboy - I think that was pretty much me and the girl today. in fact, for whatever reason, we were seated right in the middle of EVERYONE. LOL

me12121 - i hope that they get a chance to ask us any questions, i think that is the perfect opportunity to answer their questions and quell stereotypes.

Wow. That's all I can say.

Dkon, you've got cajones buddy. Good on you. ..|

Nice going buddy! I'll bet you were thinking how you couldn't just sit there and say nothing.

Why, I'll bet you were even thinking about JUB ("Shit! Should I say something? Hmmn. It WOULD make a great thread!").

:)

I can't wait to see what happens in that philosophy of human sexuality course I want to take soon...

Not...

Considering that will be a philosophy course, it will probably make me think in some obscure way I don't want to think about sexuality in. And I imagine the class will be filled with gay guys and especially girls, so I won't have this problem of silence. But still plain human sexuality would be better...

Good luck Tuesday...

I agree with everything that's been said as far as commending Dkonfrost. I am not in any classes on sexuality, but I wouldn't offer up my own sexuality in a discussion in class. The classes that I have taken where a gay person has spoke out about their own sexuality usually end up making that person the "go to gay" and anytime the topic comes up it's all eyes on them. I don't want that kind of pressure myself...but congrats to you on having the balls to undertake it!

For the record, I do speak out in general on behalf of the gay community when people are being morons.

Oh! Me too!

Perhaps if we begin a collection? ;)

it could be part of JUb sexuality class...

hehehe

well if you can tell a whole room of strangers that you are gay, why not show the ballbag to 80,000 intimate friends, right?

i will do it if he will

now thats some interesting human sexuality to study :D

In my men's health class there are probably like 4 gay guys, myself included. I almost cringe every time one of us brings up the gay perspective because it must seem like we're begging for it. But I know it has to happen because no one else is addressing it.

So I think all four of us wish that the class would encompass gay men's health.

So in discussion, we were asked to consider sexual dynamics between heterosexual men and women and then were asked about if the dynamics apply for gay men.

Three of us are gay in that class and only I and my friend (also gay) talked about how the fear of the male mystique is probaly reduced but that penis comparison anxiety is probably still just as present and that was after 3 minutes of silence.

Damn.

Nice job, though ;)

  ...........

Andreus, i'm considering your proposition :D

well when you decide, take a look at my gallery page ;)

but you better give me an eyefull in return, cutie

Good for you dkonfrost! ..| It'll be interesting to hear what sorts of reactions you get from the other students!
