Following the accident where 15 people were killed, including most of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, a Go Fund Me was started to help families deal with expenses arising from the deaths.

The goal was 4 million dollars.

This morning they had raised $8,125,621 from just over 100,000 people in four days.

..|..|..|:=D:

I love hearing that they raised so much in so little time....

....terrible tragedy

I read an article about a family which has been billeting Bronco players for 5 years. The boys they billet quickly become parts of the family. This year, the family was billeting 3 young men: two 18-year-olds and one 16-year-old. All 3 were killed in the crash.

A chill fell over Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw on Saturday night as the on-ice rivals banded together for something bigger than hockey.

One by one, the Moose Jaw Warriors and Swift Current Broncos players slowly gathered at centre ice, the sound of skates on ice filling the otherwise silent building.

A moment of silence echoed at Canadian Hockey League areas across the country, remembering the victims of the Humboldt Broncos team bus crash on Friday night.

So the fund has now surpassed 10 million dollars...one of three largest in Go Fund Me history.....the Humboldt Broncos are now getting financial advice as to how to distribute the funds.

120,000 donations from people in over 80 countries.

The original goal when it was started by a young woman from Humboldt was $10,000.

The accident is so terrible. I'm glad something good was raked from the ashes. The unity shown by the global community here has made a great statement, and in times better known for division and acrimony.

Prayers to the families and friends of the dead and injured.

^ Good point. As I noted, the original goal was miniscule....just to help out with incidental expenses. A lot of kids aren't life insured though, so families would have had the costs of the funerals.
And for those families with kids in the hospital, there would be all the costs of flying out and staying. The trucker and bus company would have been insured, but it could be some time before any funds got to the families.

Health care for those requiring hospital care would be covered.

Certainly, for those with lifetime paralysis and injury, they would have expenses potentially not covered by insurance for caregivers, etc. And that can be really costly.

Hopefully they can start a foundation in the name of the lost that helps young hockey players play the game they loved. I bet the lost players would have loved that idea.

^ No. It was for expenses, as I pointed out above.
