Hurry up & lift DADT Obama!

^Lol.How did that go? Anyone know?

The democrats are all for it, and were clapping, cheering. The republicans are mainly against it. John McCain issued a statement saying it would be a bad thing to lift it, he said DADT is working great right now and that we shouldn't change anything. What a crock full of shit -- that's how I feel about that homophobe former POW...he's not a POW anymore, he's upgraded to a POS!

milboy.....have you heard the DADT story of Tim Smith? Google him.....he was a former lover/fellow Marine of mine; although we have our personal differences, he went thru some shit and now is a national advocate.

Read up on him and get the full story, I am think of reaching back out to him on a professional level and joining his casuse.

thank you for the response, I will look him up right now.

Oh wow, yeah I had heard about the billboard that those crazy Tennesseans ripped and defaced. It made me sad when I heard about it and seen the images. I'm proud of the preservering advocate work he's doing to help lift dadt.

The President's proposal went over like a lead balloon. Of course the usual suspects (social dems) were supportive, but I don't think they are representative of the prevailing military culture, which is socially conservative. In theory, Congress could certainly repeal the ban, but in practice the military command structure is holding all of the cards and, like memory plastic, they will always revert to true form and elect to maintain the present arrangement. They have to grow much older and die first before change comes. I say we have an excellent chance of seeing DADT repealed sometime during the 2040s.

yea it is crazy---you know, we spoke a while back and he told me he was "going thru some stuff with his pastor" but I never knew it was to that extent----and then I head about the story and was like "wait a minute, is that my Tim?"

I wanna support the advocacy.

Washington (CNN) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates will unveil the Pentagon's plan to prepare for repealing the controversial "don't ask, don't tell" law regarding gay soldiers at a committee hearing Tuesday, a Pentagon spokesman said.

"The Defense Department leadership is actively working on an implementation plan and the secretary will have more to say about this next week," Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said on Thursday.

Gates and Mullen are not expected to offer a specific legislative proposal to repeal the law, but rather to detail some of the preliminary steps that need to be taken inside the military in advance of formulating a legislative plan.

Gates will discuss options for more "humanely" implementing the current ban, for example, according to a senior Pentagon official. The secretary asked his general counsel's office for options six months ago including how to possibly not expel personnel whose homosexuality is revealed by third parties, the source said.

Another military official familiar with the discussion said some of the issues to be considered include the cost of implementing a new policy, benefits for gay spouses, potential hate crimes, and even logistical questions such as the possible need to renovate barracks to separate straight and gay troops.

logistical questions such as the possible need to renovate barracks to separate straight and gay troops

lol---that is just too funny! The "straights" and gays already live in the same barracks (and even in the same rooms)....the straights just don't know who's gay or not...... :p

"On Tuesday, in the first Congressional hearing on the issue in 17 years, Mr. Gates and Admiral Mullen will unveil the Pentagon’s initial plans for carrying out a repeal, which requires an act of Congress. Gay rights leaders say they expect Mr. Gates to announce in the interim that the Defense Department will not take action to discharge service members whose sexual orientation is revealed by third parties or jilted partners, one of the most onerous aspects of the law."

Very good news to hear. As someone who is now an Active Duty service member, I am seeing first hand how annoying DADT is, and this will def make my life a lot easier, although, I am betting the first year or two will be heavy and heated.

I don't have a lot of time in, so I can't really speak too much on what it is like being gay in the military for a long time, but for where I am now in my career...ugggggh! And I am only at a training command right now.

I feel like I've heard it all before and the ending is never very pretty. The men running the military are too old and too conservative to change.

^Their civilian employers, including the Congress, wouldn't dare give an order that the brass would not agree in advance to cooperate with. The race issue were a little different because there were millions of blacks ready to raise hell if change didn't come quick. Nobody's going to raise hell over unfairness to gays. Military leaders are much more comfortable working with women (straight) than gays, male or female.

Actually, your first few months/years are the hardest as you have to discipline yourself [from looking at guys in the shower/lockerroom/barracks, and adjust some your [feminine] behaviors and sexual activities/endeavors slightly....once you have a "little time under your belt" you'll get the hang of how to make "straight" excuses/adjust to it/cope with it.

You're at a training command right now? You must be Army or Air Force, I am assuming?

Yea the first year or two will be heavy and heated, as millions of men and women are adjusting to the changes and comfort levels, newly "out" fellow servicemembers, and new rules, etc. I can't wait to see what it will be like, I am already cool coping with DADT----but I wanna see the "fairy-party explosion" that erupts when DADT is lifted. :p
