I know its a little odd for someone who is somewhere around the age of 30 to never have had their drivers licence but meh I have never had the desire to drive but because of work I have to get my licence and they have been waiting for nearly 3 years for me to get them..... so I am going for my drivers licence on the 13th March... I am rather nervous but I am paying $60 an hour for driving lessons so hopefully it will be money well spent. Its quite hard to get free lessons because just about everyone who is willing to take me drives a manual and that is far too complicated.

You'll do fine, sb. I really don't know how people manage without a car. Like Gar said, it's freeing.

My partner , who is 43, only passed his test last year after 2 years of lessons.....................he wonders how he ever did without it now!

I bought him an old mercedes 190e automatic, and he has only scraped it twice so far!!! (!)

What is it with people driving automatics, your so lazy *giggles* oh well

Good luck I'm sure you will do fine. What is the learning to drive process where you live? and once you pass do you get any stupid laws for a set amount of time of what you can and cant do?

There are heaps of stupid requirements.

You start off on your L's (which I am on)... and you have to have them for atleast six months and do atleast 120 hours of driving.... and keep a log book. You have to have a licenced driver with you at all times when you drive.

Then you go on to your P's for atleast 12 months... you can't have more than one passenger in your car between 11pm and 5am unless you are over 25

Then you go on to Green P's... for two years... you have to do a computer hazard test to do this... more money...

Then you do another computer test and you go on to an unrestricted licence...

so its going to take me 3 years to get my unrestricted licence.

All this is suppossedly to make the roads safer but in reality its just to make as much money as possible.

Wow, good luck! When I was 16, I had my test.
I didn't stop for a stop sign and I did a 3 point turn wrong and I still passed. The cop was on his cell phone the WHOLE time. The only thing I acually did and did it right was park on a hill.

haha.

I dont know what the lessons are like in sydney, but in the ACT they are pretty fun, have you done the emergency break yet???:P

congrats. You'll do fine just relax and be safe

me personally once i drove for the first time i couldnt stop. I love to drive sticks and autos. I just love cars so its a hobby for me, i love it so much

Driving standard is not too complicated, it just takes a little coordination. Once you get it down you'll find it's a lot of fun.

I bought an automatic Peugeot 504 about 20 years ago--and have been automatics ever since!! I LOVE THEM!!

Well if the tests and the rules were that strict over here then I would probably wanna drive an automatic to just to make it a lil easier.

Over here you get a provisional licence, take lessons, take a theory test which also includes a computer hazard test, once you do that you take your practical which is 40 mins long around the city in which you take your test, do 2 manoeuvres, when you pass your a full driver. Only thing is you get a 6 point limit for 2 years then it goes to 12.

good luck sb!

Hey, I took my drivers test with a manual transmission car. No problems, you just gotta get use to driving them. Any yes, you will stall out a lot in the beginning but that is normal.

my test is tomorrow.... I am a lot nervous.

I have spent $800 since the beginning of Feb on lessons... hopefully money well spent. I can steer, turn, park, reverse, follow the rules etc

One good thing is that last week I started taking Zyban to quit smoking and they have really helped with calming my nerves :)... (my quit day is tomorrow, after the test as I didn't want to be unstable)

good luck with your lessons and good luck on your driving test!

just remember, little old ladies are not worth 50 points.

the driving test administrator takes a dim view on that. ;)

Best of luck with your test ..|

No we are only worth 25 points because we can't move quickly

Jeez, they'll let any knobhead drive over there, eh? ;)

Good luck with your test. You've done a lot of prep work and I know you'll do fine.
