  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I. AM. SO. PISSED.

It's quite likely that there would be at least a couple of surveillance cameras between your house and the store where he was found, isn't it?

The police should be taking home invasion/ trespassing/theft seriously. If they are not, go to the local news outlets to alert your neighbours.

Hopefully you are making your own home more secure.
The outside cam at the closer store entrance has been non-functional since the start of COVID. Most of the houses between here and there are Habitat for Humanity cases, and probably the people don't know how to run a security camera (though the HfH group where I attended university put a security system in every home they built or restored). And someone knocked out our driveway cam a couple of weeks ago, so it didn't catch anything.
There is one neighbor who could definitely afford a security system, and the last owners had one; I'll have to ask if there's one running and if it sees the sidewalk -- the last one only had the edge of the sidewalk in view (which was enough to catch one druggie who threw literal shit onto their porch because he wore a very distinctive set of mismatched shoes).
Tomorrow I should put in the last bit of augmented puppy-proofing for the yard, then I'll think about the driveway -- legally I can fence it off as far as thirty feet from the garage -- and the back deck and porch.

Have you had your dog chipped, so he can be identified?
Chipped, and with a lifetime subscription to "24HourDogWatch" (I think I got that right); they get automatically notified every time the chip gets read, and if it's not at one of the places he usually goes I get notified. If I can get a GPS tracker chip for him they'll get that data, too.

Time to get a shotgun.
I can't remember if I sold mine or it's in storage.

If I have to buy one, well, the Oregon "instant check" system for firearms is only eleven months backlogged (unless you know somebody with influence).

And the stores won't do what federal law says because they're being threatened by both the police and by their insurance companies.

That doesn't sound very American to me.

That picture is adorable. Love the sign.

It's very much like a lot of American police organizations -- looking down on citizens and treating them cavalierly id common.

The sign is the one I made for when I picked up Knox. The rescue outfit has a picture of me kneeling with Knox and holding the sign up.
The "LIFETIME" on the blanket was just too good not to set up at the entrance to "Knoxvilla".
