The outside cam at the closer store entrance has been non-functional since the start of COVID. Most of the houses between here and there are Habitat for Humanity cases, and probably the people don't know how to run a security camera (though the HfH group where I attended university put a security system in every home they built or restored). And someone knocked out our driveway cam a couple of weeks ago, so it didn't catch anything. It's quite likely that there would be at least a couple of surveillance cameras between your house and the store where he was found, isn't it?
The police should be taking home invasion/ trespassing/theft seriously. If they are not, go to the local news outlets to alert your neighbours.
Hopefully you are making your own home more secure.
There is one neighbor who could definitely afford a security system, and the last owners had one; I'll have to ask if there's one running and if it sees the sidewalk -- the last one only had the edge of the sidewalk in view (which was enough to catch one druggie who threw literal shit onto their porch because he wore a very distinctive set of mismatched shoes).
Tomorrow I should put in the last bit of augmented puppy-proofing for the yard, then I'll think about the driveway -- legally I can fence it off as far as thirty feet from the garage -- and the back deck and porch.
