Among other things, we need a paradigm shift away from corporate imperialism and stop our parasitic exploitation of other countries' resourses, goods, and labor. We might bring them medicine and technology, but we are also destroying their land, culture, and identity when we build factories and plants and expose them to our media. We are basically enslaving them because they have no way to rebel or make demands from big companies like labor unions do here.

In the past, we were the only hope against the ideology of communist oppression. Now we are the oppressors with our grossly overdeveloped capitalism.

While I agree with you completely, that doesn't really say much about the role of the US (or the rest of the westernized world for that matter) sees itself playing in achieving that. Is it possible to bring progress without destroying culture and identity? Does one lead by example or do you set up factories and industries in other countries that have co-stewardship over the communities they're part of/in while catering to so called 'first world' needs at the same time? Interesting! It's something that has been going on here in Europe for some time now as well with former Sovjet satellite states wanting to join the EU.
