I decorated my apartment; give me your thoughts

Agree! That's one of my biggest decorating peeves.

They should typically be at eye level. Depending upon the size of the pic and surroundings, the eye should be in the middle to upper third. If you have groupings some can be higher/lower. Also, when it comes to groupings it's comfortable to the eye to group in sets of 3, and each can be spaced relatively close together...say 4"-5" apart or so, depending on sizes and shapes. Not always steadfast rules though...

And don't use gloss white paint. Paint your walls dark, flat colours.

Yeah, depressive goth black is a good advice. Might as well slit your wrists and paint the walls in blood.

^Our first apartment was painted terra cotta, Black, Oxblood and an amazing grey aqua colour like lichen....all mixed by an incredibly gifted Austrian colourist in Toronto....

The other thing that I've learned over the years....hang pieces at sitting eye level or hang them at unexpected heights in unexpected ways. We have 24 pieces by one artist in our house and it was a delight to have her come to dinner and be completely baffled and overjoyed at how we had hung her paintings....some are at cat's eye level....all are hung to grab the viewer and challenge their perceptions and intellectual notions of displaying art.

But none are hung too high.

Red's a difficult colour. You may need 3 or four coats.

I'd say if you enjoy the art, then who cares what people say.

My favourite type of artwork is nature scenes and whatnot... one of them is a prairie sunset scene painted by some woman in the early '70s, and a couple people have said it's a pretty awful painting, but I like it a lot. I think it's nice and I can see what the painter was going for. I got it at the thrift store for a handful of change too, so who says you need to spend a lot on good art.

Hmm..idk, maybe you should take a 360 degree photos of your apartment room, so we can decide here

So it's like Wild Wild West kinda theme..with wagon, vintage cowboys ads, pistols- if you have any, Beer mugs..etc

I don't want the whole apartment to be a theme though.

The bathroom is like that because it's a small enough room to make it one theme, which is black and white.

I'm sure I'll still buy things along the way. It's never going to be a theme though (i didn't know that was a rule when decorating) but this is my TV stand. Since I like Nintendo, I got tons of video game figures.

just got 4 more in the mail today (one of them was Bowser Jr.)

Frankly... if you like it and get enjoyment out of it... if that's what you like in your space.... then it's perfect for you. I like different stuff, although you'd probably hate how my house looks.
