So many JUB members Homepage state, "Drinking: I don't drink alcohol." This is something I don't understand. I've been going to bars since I was 18. At any social gathering there is alcohol served, be it a benefit dinner or family gathering or a gathering at a friend's house. In entering a restaurant the bar is often very prominent. I go to restaurants daily. All of my friends consume alcohol, no exceptions. I can't imagine any adult not drinking alcohol. Just puzzled.

Thanks for the quick replies. I guess some people figure they're being health conscious and going to live forever without alcohol.

I do not drink every time I am in a bar or having dinner. I do it maybe once or twice a year. I feel rotten for a few days after consuming alcohol in my body.

There is really nothing wrong with not drinking at all and in fact the world may be a safer place if we do not drink habitually.

Or you have people who quit drinking because every time they imbibed, they would find themselves in strange places with strange people.

It never appealed to me. I always hated alcohol. And I can't drink for medical reasons anyway.

Oh well, more for those of us who do drink it right?

I have a few friends who do not drink alcohol. They just don't like the taste. I don't drink root beer, because I hate the taste of the stuff. Some people don't drink it for religious reasons, or perhaps medical/health reasons. Or for them, alcohol is like Pringles: once you pop, you can't stop. Perhaps there's a different reason altogether.

All these reasons are valid, because they are true for a person. I myself don't fall into any of the categories above (okay, I shouldn't drink alcohol for medical reasons, but I told the doctor where to stick it - it's not going to kill me). I drink alcohol because I like the taste (which, I know, is largely based on culture) of, in my case, beer and whiskey.

Whether or not to drink alcohol is a person's individual choice, which should be respected.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink: because when they wake up in the morning that's the best they're going to feel all day.

I like the taste, but I don't really enjoy the high - it doesn't make me sick. And I don't enjoy being around other people who've been drinking as much as I do when they're sober.

I don't like the taste, and don't need to be drunk to enjoy myself. No lifestyle religous or medical reason. Just personal preference.

Like they say - Step 1 - Once I start I can't stop and it fucks up my life.
Alcohol free for 9 years. (!)

.

You drinkers are idiots for criticizing us non drinkers. Just cuz we dont like ALCOHOL in our systems. do u not remember what alcohol is? its a friggin toxin!

Honey, take a deep breath, untwist your knickers, and reread the thread. No-one's criticising you. The OP asked a question that was on his mind - he wanted to understand why someone wouldn't drink.

I just wanted to add to this general topic that by 'drinking alcohol' I didn't mean 'getting drunk'. I hate getting drunk - the loss of balance, loss of speech, queasyness/vomiting, the possible hangover the next morning... not my idea of a good time. I usually do a good job of avoiding intoxication for that exact reason. But having a beer or whiskey... yes, I like that.

I respect you who don't drink and I respect you who do drink. All I ask is that you respect my choice to drink or not drink

I agree Jory. I follow this exact principle!

I can have fun with or without alcohol. I just find it most fun to be in the same mindset as everyone I'm hanging out with. So if everyone's sober then I prefer to be sober; and if everyone's drinking then being the only sober one isn't fun for me.

It's really fun if you're responsible about driving and dodge hangovers :D I haven't had a hangover in over a year even if I drink a lot because I'm good about chugging several glasses of water before going to sleep and when I wake up. As far as I know large alcohol consumption makes you dehydrated which is what causes hangovers.

As for driving I am extremely careful after having a bad experience. I only had a few drinks one night but was physically exhausted from the two days prior and even though I felt fine to drive, those very few drinks I had caught up with my tiredness and I fell asleep driving home. I crashed into a parked car- very low impact but it ended up totally my car somehow. I consider myself the luckiest guy ever given the circumstances:
A) No other person was involved
B) I didn't get hurt
C) I was relieved that the car I hit was a piece of junk that was broken down on the side of the road waiting to be towed the following morning anyway; they were probably happy to get the insurance money
D) In court the 9 points on my license got reduced to 2

I don't drink, and if you don't like it....fuck yourself...or let me fuck you :p

When I go out, I seldom drink alcohol, that's because I have to drive home. I do drink occasionally at home. In fact my fridge is full of beer, pear cider and white wine, but I don't drink it everyday or every week for that matter. I could go months without an alcoholic drink.

So stating that you don't drink or drink occasionally is correct. Websites don't allow you to be more specific. The same goes for sexual activity. You've got to be active, passive or versatile. What about those who don't do anal sex at all?

i don't drink. I've never seen the point. why put something in your body that effects the way you think/act?

I have no problems with anyone that does though.

Never smoked either...
