^ IMHO, saying the equivalent of "You just don't get it man" is the easiest way to understand homophobia. 'People fear what they don't understand' is thrown around so much it's pretty much common knowledge. How can you even claim that it's only a very small percentage of homophobic people that are insecure and are really hiding behind the hate? It's not like they will admit to it. Even if it was an anonymous poll for statistical purposes, I bet the weight in the fear of being outed would be too heavy and they'd cave in and lie. I don't completely disagree though. I just think that, among other things, both insecurity and ignorance fuel homophobia. Sometimes one more than the other, but both.
