...Or boxing, or UFC Wrestling or whatever it's called...

What's the appeal, here ? Two guys trying to beat the shit out of one another and 10's of thousands of people (some even here on JUB) go bat shit crazy over it .

WHY ?

Is it because I'm gay I'm missing the gene that allows me to enjoy pain being inflicted on another person and think of it as entertainment ?

Or... Is there some sort of latent homosexuality going on, here ? I can *sort* of understand why women would like to see buff, sweaty guys in tight shorts rolling around on top of each other, but what is it that the Str8 boys get so excited over ?

Is it some sort of testosterone-fueled sense of dominance and territoriality that I'm just not in touch with ?

Thoughts ?

But besides all that.

In a culture that readily chastises any sign of homo affectionate behavior, the extreme of MMA is sobering. It's ok to get down and dirty with a guy, just as long as your doing it for the right reason, to kill him.

I like it. I watch it with friends and a few beers.

Sexy men and violence all in one cage?

YAY

Isn't schadenfreude the best?

YEPPERS

I mean

the indignity of having your opponents nuts smashed against your face as you get punched in the gut over and over? its like living in Rome all over again. ..|

OOOOF

and those guys make BUCKS

It beats the old WWF and the fake wrestling, thats for sure. I don't have a problem with blood sports.

Its really just the new boxing man on man competition.
But who doesnt mind 2 hotties with sixpacks rolling around together? I mean really who doesnt wanna look at George St Pierre's ass? I certainly do.

Watching hot men in short shorts grappling? OMFG I nut constantly.

It's fun.

Besides I liked supporting my cousins that did it.

ugh, it's barbaric, pitiful qand pathetic to see two humans treat one another the way they do.....

Because i like fights, that's why. But that's the blanket surface.

I like the skill involved; the discipline in MMA. And, from a barebones, testosterone-fueled standpoint, it's a RUSH. Maybe you don't have that gene, but i'm very glad i do. Doesn't make me "manly" - just makes me me.

But, WHY ?

I realize I'm not exactly your favorite person here, E-P, but what I don't get is why two people inflicting pain and hurt upon one another is something that should be celebrated.

I mean, I'm all for skill and discipline, but why not apply that skill to something worthwhile ? Art, music, science, literature... Something that can be a benefit for generations to come ?

What comes from beating people ? A fleeting sense of smug satisfaction, I suppose, but that doesn't last.

I guess I just don't get it.

I think you guys are not really getting what the sport is all about if you think its not about precision.

It's alot about kick boxing, but there are layers of martial arts involved in the fighting.

I'll put it this way... its not wrestling mixed wit boxing. You need to be much more precise and agile than that to survive.

it is not pretend though. People really do hit each other and there is usually blood involved.

I have to admit that the first attraction is that the men are very sexy, but it wouldn't hold my attention the way it does unless it was a real sport.

I like UFC mostly because the guys are pretty respectful and for some reason its the only sport I really like to watch. Anything else like WWE or RAW is just pure scripted crap and always has been.

So, with all your prejudices about the sport, I don't think the "why" could ever be told to you in a way that you'd get it on a basic level,
Thank you for dumbing it down for me....

I hope you didn't hurt your back having to bend down so low to explain it on such a basic level.
