Ok, so as of late I've been interested in getting other people's opinions on my favorite Celine Dion songs, though some of her songs have been done by other artist's before her. My favorite song of all-time is I Drove All Night. Original artist's include Roy Orbison and Cyndi Lauper. Obviously, Celine's version is my favorite. But, who do YOU think performed the song better?

Roy Orbison

Cyndi Lauper

Celine Dion

Hands down Cyndi Lauper. Then Roy. Then Céline.

I'm sorry, if you ask about Céline's other stuff, I'm likely to say the same. (to be fair I do like some of her French stuff...Ziggy, Je danse dans ma tête, etc...)

I think Cyndi Lauper far outshines the rest in her version. And Celine should stick to french songs...she tends not to wail in them like she does in english. I mean really, she has a lovely voice when she sings quietly, but she seems to believe english-speaking fans want to hear that screech! Uggh!

I would love to say Cyndi but Celine owns it. Her voice has so much power and control

Obviously they/we do, beings she is the biggest selling female recording artist in the soundscan era, an extreme majority being from her english work :P Though I don't consider what she does as wailing, listen to Aretha Franklin. Celine generally hit's the high note and sticks with it, while alot of others use runs to cover their flaws.

Celine's most famous songs are her big ballads, generally people don't know she has done soft ballads, soft pop, chilling slow songs and fast uptempo songs, as well as songs that are more rocky and edgy to more r&b, as well as Jazz. She is extremely versitile, and of course my vote goes to Celine :D Love her, she's my fav artist ever, I know everything about her. Love Cyndi though, as does Celine.

you know... i don't think i could have ever put that in better words. No other artist has a voice quite like hers. I wouldn't be singing today if it weren't for her. She brings a lot of emotion in her songs, which is very rare among artists today.

It's because Celine has been a huge figure in the biz for 30 years now. She started when you had to have alot talent to set foot in the door. Her story is really inspiring to.

yea i know... started makin albums at the age of 13, winning the yamaha music festival in tokyo, winning eurovision in 1988, releasing her first english album in 1990, performing at the 1996 summer olympics, had a highly successful show in las vegas.... the list just goes on

Yep, coming from extreme poverty to becoming a powerhouse and doing it all on her voice alone, and not on sex appeal or her looks.

Okay I don't mind her version of the song, but if you don't know the following names, you don't know the story of Céline's career.

  • Erica Ehm
  • Steve Anthony
  • Ziggy Lorenc
  • Kim Clarke Champniss
  • Natalie Richard
  • Christopher Ward
  • Moses Znaimer.

You should probably know "Cancon" too.

but above all, you need to know about this:

Cyndi and Roy do really stylish versions of the song but I actually believe Dion when she sings it, she sounds like a woman in heat.
