It's good to get things off your chest. Have you tried to tell either of your friends how you feel? Maybe they don't know you feel abandoned, and they're not purposely doing it. By the way, how come you have to drive your brother everywhere? You should get him to pay you. Then it'd be like a job.

It sounds like the existing people in your life are taking you for granted as well as busy.

Make new friends. Do salsa, or wine tasting, or running, or some kind of sport. Accept party invites. Catch up with old friends. Eventually you'll be busy too.

As has been suggested, do volunteer work of your own. Or look for internships.

It says in your profile that you're off to NYU. That's not a bad position to be in.

Situations often look like a catch-22 if you want to get where you want to be in one move. There are actually lots of things you can do now to make progress. It might just take some time before you reach your goal.

I know the feeling. If there is one more book you should read, it's The Secret by Rhonda Byrne or better yet try the movie. It's about the law of attraction and how to change your life to how you want it to be.

As you just graduated high school you may find that some of your friends then aren't going to be your friends anymore. Don't worry - you'll find plenty of new ones at NYU.

When you get to NYU, JOIN CLUBS! I don't go there, but I have a few friends who do. No matter what they tell you on the tour, there is no campus. "the city is our campus" is bullshit. This lack of campus means that you don't run into people from your classes around campus. They're too intermingled with the rest of NYC to be stopped and spoken to. The only hopes for social interaction are those close to you in your building and clubs (socializing in class is just not a great idea).
Clubs rule, yo.

Also, I know the feeling of "we won't hire you because you've never worked". Nepotism is the only way to get a job between high school and college. Volunteering helps you get hired like no other.

I agree with the volunteering route.

It gives you good experiance and the possibility of meeting some new freinds as well.

You'd be surprised at how some employers might view your resume when they see that you are motivated enough to do something for others.

It will also stand you in good stead when you are in NYU.
