I'm in my mid-twenties and when I go clubbing in New York I always feel so out of place. Is either anorexic looking 18 year old twink bois, muscle hunks who would probably never even look at me, or older guys ogling. Does anyone else feel like me?:(

I'll be 22 in a few days and i already feel my youth escaping.:(

You also need to change the places where you are going.

If I want to feel old, it's easy to find some bar or club where I don't fit in.

And that's the clue: find a place where your age is appropriate.

If you feel old at 25, what will you do when you reach 60 ?

You have all your life in front of you, and you think you are already finished ?

Set new goals for yourself, exercise, take new interests with other people.

Tomorrow is interesting, not yesterday.

Just do what I did and stop going to pubs and clubs where 18 year old twinks are the normal customers. Most of the gay men I know are way out of their teens and are way more attractive than some anorexic no mark mooch.

I'm turning 50 this year. I guess that qualifies me as one of the "older guys ogling". Considering you refer to yourself as "old", I suppose you must think I'm a perverted fossil.

Stop comparing yourself to the people around you. You're not the only person in his mid-twenties, you know. Enjoy it while you got it -- it doesn't last forever. Believe me, I know. :(

I'm just a dirty old man in training

I don't have a problem with that

I look forward to it

Well i'm 22 and I notice that i'm not turning as many heads as I did when I was 18. I still party just as hard, dancing on tables, drinking to the point where I get up on stage and strip, and I still dress in ultra-exclusive designer clothes. The only thing that has changed is age. I'm not having as much fun as I did back then. I'm moving to West Hollywood in January to finish my last two years of college and hopefully the change of scene will help. New clubs and new boys. I'm a little tired of New Orleans and Katrina just made it worse.

Well said. That is the same advise I was going to give. Those anorexic twinks make me squemish. Just think what they will look like without clothes.

Solution is simple. If I find myself in a place that makes me feel uncomfortable for whatever reason, I simply find someplace else to go where I don't feel uncomfortable...|

Perhaps the 20-something boys are just outgrowing the bar/club scene.

I say-run with it-leave the club scene behind, for the most part it is superficial and harms your body (drinking/drugs/dangerous sex) and your psyche.

If you want anything real-search for it outside of bars...join a hiking club, ya never know you might fall for one of the mannish dykes ;-)

Seriously-if you feel old it probably means you are outgrowing the scene.

I'm having more fun in my 30's than I did in my 20's. I didn't think it was possible at the time, but there you are. Plus I still go out and shake it on the dance floor like it's my job and don't give a toss as to what others think I look like.

Do I feel old around the young twentysomethings? Sometimes, but do I care? Not really. I'm happy, healthy and have a great life, so why bother with what other people think of you when you're out? As others have said, age is not only a milestone in one's lifespan but also a mindset.

HoodedRat -- fancy a few pints and a turn on the dance floor with me? :D

Hey Inwood - there's Grab-A-Grandad night in Newport on a Wednesday - Pound a Pint, you'd fit right in!

I turned 50 last month, supposed to a prime candidate for a midlife crisis right?

WRONG!!! I'm blessed with good genes that had some people think the big event was my turning 40 instead. I know I'll never be able to compete with a buffed twink to catch someone's eye but why in hell would I want to?

The sex with my partner has never been better and I still get the look from a stranger enough times to keep my ego happy.

If you're not feeling good where you party, as others have said, go somewhere else and feel better.

To quote a commercial jingle "I'm not getting older, I'm getting better."

If i had a quid for every negative stance concerning Chav's on this board.....

I'd have three quid.
