to milk, wheat and/or peanuts.

Just about every product on the market sticks a disclaimer on the package saying their food is manufactured in a facility that processes milk, wheat and peanuts.

Is there anyone here allergic to these things and do you really have to read labels that carefully to make sure you're not buying anything that may contain these ingredients?

I'm not allergic to any of those, but I am to pollen and it sucks! I hate Summer and Spring.

A [distant] nephew of mine has an allergy to peanuts. Should he ingest anything containing them, the reaction could a lethal one. (anaphylactic shock [sp?])
In addition, my best friend's grandson had a severe reaction to products contain wheat or corn: usually ballistic vomiting and consequent dehydration. Luckily, the lad outgrew his allergy; but my nephew must still be careful about peanuts: his allergy appears to be life-long.

That, to me, would be just as miserable.

Man, for lack of a better way to put it, that would suck. Royally.

I have a great deal of sympathy for Brandon and those who suffer from pollen allergies. Where it's not as life-threatening as allergies to nuts, etc., I can see how miserable it makes life during those times of the year when pollen is in the air. Hang in there, allergy victims, and hope that future medicines take away all trace of the problem.

Some people are so allergic to peanuts, that even catching a whiff of the breath of somebody who recently ate peanuts, can send them into anaphylactic shock.

When I worked for Walt Disney World in foods, I was voted into, (well the boss said) I had to research each and every product we sold. I had to make a book with all products and ingredients in them. I was stunned and shocked at what went into each item.

So if you ever go to Walt Disney World and you have allergies go ask for the book.

When I had it bad, people thought I was on drugs because my eyes were watery, my nose was red and running, and my eyes were itchy. Thankfully they chopped down the tree next door that developed a lot of that pollen and it helped me out some what.

Gawd, that all sounds horrible :(

I'm deathly allergic to penicillin. I was given penicillin once for an infection of some type and they had to rush me to the hospital. My whole face and neck swelled up and cut off my air, I wasn't able to breathe. So I damn near bit the big one.

As for food, the only thing I'm allergic to would be eggs. But only if they're undercooked. I can eat them scrambled or hard-boiled, but if the white or the yolk is just slightly underdone, I get a reaction.

Well if you think being allergic to peanuts or milk sucks, I have some interesting info for you.
I am allergic to water.
Everytime I touch water, my skin gets red and bleeds sometimes. Well, unless I add this liquid the doctor prescribed for me.
Being me sucks.

Oh my gosh!

I find I'm allergic to large doses of radiation.

And morphine.

Wow, guys, these are some heavy allergies. I had no idea that people could be allergic to these things.

One bad thing is to be allergic to seafood! (I'm not!)

Wow! The water one is surely the worst! :s

This was in the news in 2005:

A 15-year-old girl with a peanut allergy died after kissing her boyfriend, who had just eaten a peanut butter snack, hospital officials said Monday.

Christina Desforges died in a Quebec hospital Wednesday after doctors were unable to treat her allergic reaction to the kiss the previous weekend.

Desforges, who lived in Saguenay, about 155 miles (250 kilometers) north of Quebec City, was almost immediately given a shot of adrenaline, a standard tool for treating the anaphylactic shock brought on by a peanut allergy, officials said.

An autopsy was being performed. Dr. Nina Verreault, an allergist at the Chicoutimi Hospital in Saguenay, declined to comment on the case.

My brother's girlfriend is allergic to:
Gluten (wheat, barley, etc.)
Eggs
Milk/Cream
Cow Cheese and some Goat Cheese
Garlic
Citrus
Bananas
and those are just some of the foods. She's also allergic to most detergents and soaps, as well as antibiotics.

I just baked a birthday cake for her. You have no idea how difficult that was.
