  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I feel the earth move under my feet...

Move to Eau Claire, then. Every major storm tends to dodge us, so we usually don't have too much snow during the winter, and maybe a flash flood here and there in the summer, but those are easy to deal with.

Did you both drag your laptops to the doorway? Or under the desk? Safety first! :)

Why does Colorado have massive snowstorms, and Texas have Texans? Colorado got first pick.

I was sound asleep in a nap and that fucking thing woke me up. Thats what I get for staying out till 6am, lol.

** very glad not to be living in cali anymore **

Well, atm at the very least. ;)

Oh please.

people who don't live here are a lot more upset about earthquakes than we are here.

they're like 5 seconds of shaking... kinda like driving on a bumpy road. then it's over and we all laugh.

Jesus, it's like people think are insane. My aunt, who lives in Royal Oak where she's more likely to die or freezing or boredom is all "Oh.. you know they say the big one is coming..."

It's not just an earthquake/California thing. You know how many older relatives called me after Columbine to make sure I was OK? Because, you know, I hang out in high school libraries on my days off....

Glad to hear all are safe.............

It's nice that even discussions about natural disasters can turn into discussions about American Idol. :)

We felt it all the way into Palm Springs. Not to big of a deal. Glad everyone near LA is okay.

When we lived in Florida everyone used to ask "aren't you afraid of a big hurricane?"

If your house gets hit by a hurricane you might be able to find your belongings spread over a 2-mile radius. If your house gets hit with an earthquake...well at least you know where to dig.

when I lived in west hollywood, the only time we had a tremor...didn't even wake me up from a nap

My two favorite things:

Oh you live in California. Aren't you afraid of earthquakes?

Oh you live in California. Aren't you afraid you'll fall into the ocean one day?

Um. Nope.

My best friend and former boyfriend (who presently works for NASA on the mars lander project as a geologist and knows what he' talking about) who says that the plethora of low-grade earthquakes are pretty much the reason that we'll never have "the big one" because they relieve the pressures on the plates.. or.. something, I was too busy sucking his dick to pay really close attention.

The point is we were never going to slide into the ocean and we never were. They were thinking that LA might end up next to San Francisco at one point.. but not for another few hundred million years.

However, if the fear of earthquakes keeps people in Texas... I say let's make them think the place doesn't stop shaking.

Indeed. Now back to shoveling that two feet of snow off my driveway.

I just felt it too. It was measured as a 4.7. The shaking, itself, does not bother me, but I live in a shoddy apartment so it would take a major earthquake to cause damage to this old building.
