  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I got beat up today by a 7 year old.

Sure, because that's what American Society does to little boys who dare to be, well, boys: drug them up and force them to conform.

the real reason why this happens is simple: boys are forced to sit down for 9 hours straight looking at a black board, when they want to run around, engage in rough-and-tumble play and just have a childhood.

I see nothing wrong at children lashing out at their school teachers. After all, the last time I checked, children are not consulted by their parents if they even want to go to shool or not. I am against a university student lashing out, because he's an adult and no one is forcing him to be there. But children are forced to withstand the forced socialization and long hours sitting down, all because the Industrial Revolution dramatically increased the need for instructed workers, so the abnormal school system we have nowadays was put in place where children are treated like drones that must suck up information for 10 to 12 hours a day to gain employment. In the past, most people had tranquil jobs that required low skills and still payed enough for them to have dignified lives. In those days, children would play and enjoy thier childhoods and then would learn a trade or skill in their adolescence that allowed them to earn enough mony to have a good life. Now, you need to have several degrees to have a good life, because the intellectually easy jobs pay ridiculously low amounts of money. It is the rat race towards death.

Without doubt, one of the stupidest fucking things I've read this year....except that there is something to be said for programming time for a kid like this to work out his aggression and excess energy.

As well as the medication, make sure that the kid's diet is not wreaking havoc with his behaviour. Sugar, food dyes and msg can make kids crazy. I've seen parents and teachers fill a kid with sugary cereal, fruit drinks or even worse pop, topped off with some salty flavoured snack and then shake their heads in wonder when the kid explodes. I have a nephew who would just about explode 20 minutes after he had this shit and then completely crash.

I would bring the doctors and therapists to the table as well. Try to help organize something before the kid gets lost, because I suspect that he may be written off if he is impossible to control.

Everything I wrote is fucking brilliant, and it's not my fault that you lack the intellectual capacity to understand it. You are like the Valley girl I know at my college who enrolled herself by mistake at a fluid dynamics physics course and Calculus III. She keeps repeating how it is all stupid and doesen't make sense all the time. Just because you don't understand something, sweet cheeks, it doesen't mean it's stupid. I hope you can comprehend this on some level.:D

It probably only seemed that way after you finished your fatty.

Not only is your understanding of historical class economics and behavioural management severely lacking....

most people had tranquil jobs that required low skills and still payed (sic) enough for them to have dignified lives

...your grammar and spelling just fall short of 'brilliant'. And trust me sweet cheeks, I have the intellectual capacity as well as the education to understand this.

One can only hope that you are never responsible for the care, upbringing or education of young children.

Isn't it unethical to be talking about your students online and on a general porn forum for gay men.

Also if you can't control a 7 year old you need to change profession or the education systen in the US is even worse than I first pictured it.

no, he just wants advice. he gets the advice he needs or not is another matter.

Elaborate please...you are all talk and no proof.

It goes to show just how ignorant you are. Not everyone here comes from an English-speaking country. English is not my first language and I can write it damn well. I dare you to write even a single sentence in my language as I can write in yours. And from my experience and observations, pointing out spelling and grammar mistakes is the resort of the truly desperate to win an argument. Anyway, I'm not wasting my time with a bitter queen who's mad at life and takes it out on an internet message board. I truly couldn't give a fuck about you or if you think that what I write is stupid, especially considering that I am almost sure my that IQ is higher than yours. Have a nice day, mam.

you should get a taser. trust me...it works WONDERS on unruly children!!!;)

It also works well on guys, too. ;)

i wouldn't know...i only use it on the kiddies. since parents these days don't seem to get the concept of discipline....something has to be done!!!

Piggy, just had to share this one with you. The teacher was putting the 3-year-olds down for nap time today. One little girl says she has to go to the bathroom. The teacher's helping the other kids, looks up, sees the bathroom door open, and tells the little girl to go ahead and go. The little girl pulls off her panties and drops a load right in the middle of the room. When the teacher sees what's happened, the little girl gives her a great big grin.

They clean up the mess and the girl, and grandma comes to pick her up. Of course grandma insists the girl had an accident and it was all the teacher's fault. They get into it out in the parking lot. The fact that the little girl's panties aren't dirty doesn't phase grandma. Meanwhile, all the other teachers are standing in the hall quietly chanting "Nine Days Left"...

Fortunately the girl's mother knows what's what. She apologized repeatedly to the teacher once she got the chance and made sure she knows the little girl was the one at fault.

I'm so glad I'm not a teacher, and yet I'd love to be a teacher. How do you solve a problem like that?

And making excuses for faulty logic because you're employing lingua franca instead of native tongue is the resort of the....?

The points you made about behaviour and your apparent lack of understanding about the nature of bipolar disorders marks you as an intellectual dilettante. Your IQ is not in question. The misuse of it to sound off on subjects you are clearly unknowledgable about, is.

This has nothing to do with bipolar disorder, brainiac. If this were the case, then you wouldn't have tons of boys who don't suffer from bipolar disorder being put on medication to force them to bahave at school. Everything I mentioned in my post is correct. The bottom line is that kids don't get to choose whether they want to attend school or not, they are forced into a completely unnatural state of having to sit looking at a black board for 9 hours straight, and then instead of eliminating the root problem, which is the enslaving and ineffective educational system which has remained unchanged since the Industrial Revolution, they "solve" the problem by drugging boys and pathologizing their completely normal male behavior.

^ You are still making totally unsupported claims about the numbers of boys (not girls???) being drugged in order to sit in front of a blackboard.

1. Tons of boys not suffering from bipolar disorder are not being drugged. Back this up with proper citations, or else it looks like you're talking through your ass.

2. I don't know of any school system in North America where children sit looking at a blackboard for 9 hours per day. Tell us which school district does this.

3. The educational system in place since even long before 1800 is neither 'enslaving' or ineffective. It has produced generations of erudite and creative thinkers. It is not for every child, but unless every household wishes to hire a private governess to homeschool their precious children, or put them to work in the factory at the age of 6, it has permitted millions of children access to knowledge and intellectual development unlike any other period in the history of mankind.

4. The approach to educating children has changed profoundly over the last 40 years. I know, because it was already changing while I was in elementary school and we have many teachers in our family who teach younger children. It is not all rote learning in front of a chalkboard. In many subjects it is now far more interactive, project based and intuitive. Time will tell whether it produces better quality learning, although we currently have a generation of borderline illiterates making excuses for why they can't spell or compose a simple declarative statement.

5. You still don't seem to understand that bipolar disorder or violent and aggressive behaviour by a seven year old is not completely normal male behaviour. It just isn't. Left untreated or unrestrained, it will result in a violent and aggressive adult male. Again, thirty or forty years ago, when the educational system could provide no support for these children, they were essentially abandoned to a future of instutionalization. Or at least they were in the system I was raised within.
This has nothing to do with bipolar disorder, brainiac.

I'm sorry that your educational system failed you so badly. This thread has everything to do with bipolar disorders, not an undisciplined rant by an intellectual narcissist who, I suspect, may have had a history of being a 'problem' student. You are destined to fail if you keep thinking that everything you think or write is brilliant or correct. It just isn't. It is apparent from your posts on this thread and others that you have serious limitations engaging in civilized discourse. By the time you do your PhD, which I assume has to be soon, if your IQ is what you claim it to be, you are going to need to be able to prove a hypothesis, not just belllow it at people.

Now take your prescription meds and calm down.

Thanks for your post. But don't believe everything you read at face value online.

Just because it may not be a firm diagnosis, does not mean that it isn't possible to make a reasoned clinical assessment of juvenile mental disorders that fit the pattern of bipolar behaviour.

While the vast majority of mental health research and treatment is focussed on adults for many, many reasons. colleagues in the field tell me though that from experience they can detect the signs of bipolar behaviour at a much younger age than you cite.

No one is arguing that some children may be inappropriately medicated. But too many young kids are emotionally and mentally out of control and everyone is saying 'Don't worry about them, they're just normal kids.'

They're not and any experience with adults with mental disorders will demonstrate that many of these behaviours started when the person was very, very young.

And it doesn't change the fact that the person I am referring to is out of his depth on the topic of juvenile mental disorders.

But...I am more than happy to let him have the last word on the issue, since I doubt that he'll be content until he has told us all that we're stupid asshats who can't appreciate the glittering clarity of his opinions on the matter.

I dunno how to deal with mentally ill children but I do know I'da grabbed his little arm with a firm enough grip that he'da stopped kicking me right then. We can't hit them back, which isn't the right thing anyways, but you don't have to take that kinda crap.

Guys, I'm going what his file says. The doctors said he has the characteristics of bipolar.

While the kid was on his medication, the same time each day, he'll explodes. He has highs and lows. It's like clock work.

He's not autistic for sure.

Today was a good day. Only had one melt down in the morning.

Bipoplar is the old Manic-Depressive Diagnosis, extreme mood swings and in short periods of time. The reason the physician is saying appears to be Bi-polar is because it is not characteristic of Bi-polar to appear in a child until about the onset of puberty, and is not typical at age seven. In factl I have never heard of a case in a child so young.

Even so, it is very serious, and you are best to have any classroom help that is available such as a classroom aide, or a personal student escort for certain illnesses. But he must not be allowed to physically attack you or other students. You are there to teach, not to manage his illness or mental distress.

In time you will learn to read to onset of problems and take pre-emptive measures to mitigate his actions. Until then, know that we are supportive of you, his teacher, and do remember that for you, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Keep a journal if you have time. Note the details. It may not make you feel any better, but he appears to have no control over his behavior.

Sorry for you Piggy that this classroom problem is occuring for you just now, but it is an opportunity to learn and grow, and I commend you for asking the question here. It is a complicated problem. Once a label is attached in education, if it is in error it is almost impossible to remove it. So err on the side of caution. Do your best, you will make it through this time.

Shep+ (*8*)!oops!

The doctors said he has the characteristics of bipolar.

Doctors misdiagnosed my autism for years so its possible the doctor has it wrong. These types of violent outbursts arent a sympton of bipolar. Where the violence is a trait of autism. Perhaps a 2nd opinion on the kid is needed before ramming more meds down his throat.

While I said that one should not believe everything you read on line, people interested in juvenile bipolar research and treatment, possibly as a career path, might wish to check:

http://www.jbrf.org/

From their site:

'Bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness) affects close to 1 million children and adolescents in the United States at any given time. Abrupt swings of mood and energy that occur multiple times within a day, intense outbursts of temper, poor frustration tolerance, and oppositional defiant behaviors are commonplace in juvenile-onset bipolar disorder. These children veer from irritable, easily annoyed, angry mood states to silly, goofy, giddy elation, and then just as easily descend into low energy periods of intense boredom, depression and social withdrawal, fraught with self-recriminations and suicidal thoughts. Recent studies have found that from the time of initial manifestation of symptoms, it takes an average of ten years before a diagnosis is made.

Bipolar disorder--manic-depression--was once thought to be rare in children. Now researchers are discovering that not only can bipolar disorder begin very early in life, it is much more common than ever imagined. Yet the illness is often misdiagnosed or overlooked. Why? Bipolar disorder manifests itself differently in children than in adults, and in children there is an overlap of symptoms with other childhood psychiatric disorder. As a result, these children may be given any number of psychiatric labels: "ADHD," "Depressed," "Oppositional Defiant Disorder," "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder," or "Separation Anxiety Disorder." Too often they are treated with stimulants or antidepressants--medications which can actually worsen the bipolar condition.'

So you see, there is a clinical basis for diagnosing Bipolar Disorder in juveniles. In fact it is as easy for a bipolar disorder to be misdiagnosed as autism or something else as the other way around....

Tough question.

The kid doesn't have to be empty though. Everyone should take the opportunity to pour their love and support into him.

Obviously, it takes some time to work out what meds and what dose may free him from his emotional prison.
