On Wednesday, I had an angiogram, where they thread a wire through your vein and they will place stunts into your veins to open it up. I had the procedure done with me but my veins were blocked up and couldnt be saved with a shunt.

I went into the hospital for three days to wait for the doctor to be able to puta pacemaker inside me. His patrients come first and if he has any time left he will do 'by standers'. I heard three people say that I was on the list but this wasnt true. I was annoyed and I left the hospital. I can return Monday which is what I am going to do.

With doctors saying I could drop dead if I left , I hope the doctors will decide that I need one now.

Its not a perfect system.

We'll see what happens . . . .

Sorry to hear about your heart problems. I hope they can get to the procedure soon.

Well, you didn't really ask for advice but just to kind of go over the basics of your post...

They're arteries, not veins. Specifically, they're coronary arteries and they sit on top of your heart and provide blood and more importantly, oxygen to your heart muscles. Without oxygen, the heart muscles get damaged. Without oxygen long enough, the muscle cells die and it's not reversible- cardiac muscle death is permanent. If enough heart muscle dies, so will the rest of you.

I'm guessing that they wanted to do coronary artery stents.
A stent is a small piece of wire mesh. When there's a partial blockage of the coronary arteries, they try to open up the artery and place a permanent stent to keep it open.

If they couldn't place a stent, that means one of two things: either the blockage was so bad that they couldn't get enough opening to get the stent past the blockage or the blockages were in a place where they couldn't get to with the catheter.

I went into the hospital for three days to wait for the doctor to be able to puta pacemaker inside me. His patrients come first and if he has any time left he will do 'by standers'. When a patient is having stents placed, they like to have a surgery team on standby in case something goes wrong. That's why most cardiac caths, pacemakers, stents, etc are done during the week- because you have to have a cath lab team and a standby surgical team.

It's not really clear why they were planning a pacemaker. That implies that there was already heart damage and your heart is not functioning properly.

While you were in the hospital, you were likely on a cardiac monitor where there was a technician and nursing staff monitoring your heart.

Since you have left the hospital, no one is monitoring you. You're on your own.

Best of luck.

That is a good asessment of the situation. My blockage is so bad that stents wont help. They said part of my heart no longer works. The pacemaker shock your heart back into a rythmn

I'm sorry to hear about your heart issues, Mark. Hope the doctors can do what needs to be done to restore your health.

Best wishes Mark. Take care of yourself.

Did they refer to it as a "pacemaker" or as an "ICD"?

There was a man who had 2 stents placed in and he left about 2 hours after the procedure
That's a little quick since they usually keep the patient around to make sure there's no bleeding at the site where they inserted the catheter. It usually is about 4 hours before the patient can bend their leg (it can be less if they only used a vein or they inserted it through the arm).

Thank you Araucaria , Vannie

The referred to it as an ICD. (implantable-cardioverter-defibrillator)

They were very strict about moving the arm that the catheter went through. They said "act as if you broke your arm"

Sending you well wishes. Hope that you are better soon.

Well, good luck.

At least in Canada you won't have to pay an arm and a leg (or anything) for the procedure.

Thank guys
Im very aware that I am lucky that I don't have to pay for the device.

What I didnt mention was I had bronchitis about 9 weeks ago and I had it for 6 weeks. It was killing me. I had shortness of breath, I could walk 10 steps and I would have to stop walking. Once it was over, my breath came back but it is gone again and I can barely do anything right now.

It sounds like they need to be scheduling a bypass surgery. Did they talk about that?

Alistair,
That hadnt occurred to me. I was thinking heart transplant based on how the first doctor was explaining things to me. When I had the choice to stay or leave, he said it was not safe for me to leave myself. I said "I was fine 12 hours ago". I had travelled to the hospital by bus, which was 40 minutes. Only this hospital does the ICD surgery.

I was just in the hospital for a little over a month - went to my doctor because I had redness on my feet and they sent me to the emergency room. I do have stents and have had them for many years but when covid came along it fucked with my heart back in 2020 and also left a blood clot in my heart and a stroke as well and when I arrived in emergency last month they put me though alot of tests and I also have a part of my heart that is dead. I figured they would "fix it" but after a month the nurse came by and said the doctor is recommending heart transplant - I have a consultation appointment in a few weeks. In the meantime I am short of breath with any exertion.

The thought of it scares me but the alternative is much scarier so - I looked up heart transplant statistics and they are 96% successful - good odds I think. The odds or not letting them do it do not look good.

In the meantime - good news is my blood clot is gone and i no longer have to take warfarin!

I wish you luck with your situation and try to remember that heart surgery is much more advanced today than ever before and that you can survive this!

I had a new heart valve put in last year. You go and get that pacemaker as soon as you can. Don't delay or procrastinate on anything to do with the heart.

Not enough oxygen to the heart or in your blood will make everything a difficult. Before I had a new heart valve put in, I could hardly walk to the mailbox and could never climb stairs. I hope everything goes well for and that you get every procedure and surgery you need to bring your heart into good working order.
