I studied for hours, and no of course not, i can't ever do well on tests, so I fucked myself even more, I have allready failed a previous exam in the fucking class, I am so stressed out right now, I dont want to fail out of college. but that is what is lookin my way right now, im sorry to just ramble on about my stupid college life and everything that goes along with it, but, but I realy am pissed off right now and i just am going to sit on my bed and cry. thanks for listening

Hey dude. Not sure anything I will say will be of any help but I can't stand to think of someone as hot as you crying so here's a big (*8*) from me.

Aaaww you poor thing, it must be tough. This is totally random but I so want to give you a hug right now :( (*8*)

Are there any peer mentoring or free tutorial services in your college? Most colleges have one and its a resource most students fail to use, which is rather unfortunate. They are often free and the mentors/tutors have gone through the same shit you have - particularly the difficulties of your first semester. Peer mentors also love to share how to study effectively, study tips, which professors to avoid, etc. Make use of the resources available to you (*8*)

You could also try setting up a study group. Listening or hearing from another person in a different perspective really helps in absorbing the material or clarifying things out for you.

At this point, since you failed two exams, is dropping the class an option? If it isn't, speaking directly with your professor should be way up there on a "Things to Do" list because it's pretty hard to pass a class with 2 failing exams. Most professors are nice and enjoy a student who is willing to take the initiative to speak to them and are taking the course seriously, but not achieving results.

What chemistry level are you taking btw?

I know this won't change your grade, but here's a hug (*8*) .

First of all, and for good reason, colleges and universities in the U.S. are not getting a good rap recently. The cost to attend is enourmous and the quality of eduaction, in gneral, is reported to be inferior according to recent news reports and my experiences.

Do you need chemistry to complete your major? If you do, go see a dean and ask for advice. If you're not happy with the advice, see someone else. Keep in mind that those who you will go to for advice report to upper management of your college. So there's a great chance that they will be guarded and slanted toward your concerns.

If you can't get any where with college personnel, then, why not contact a news source with your concerns. You have to realize that so many students and their parents have complaints about what they are paying for and NOT getting in return from higher educational institutions in the United States that we never are informed about. I am assuming your from the U.S. ... a mistake on my part but you don't mention. Colleges and universities are businesses that we support. With that in mind, these institutions should be held accountable to students and/or their parents.

Don't despear, I perfectly know how you feel.

I've failed my very last exam 8 times before I passed it, always with the same professors, she always saw me on the first row of her lessons for 2 years, but I just couldn't understand the subject, I knew the theory, but I always failed the written test. I begged to let me pass my last exam, I spent entire afternoon at her office asking for help. I already had my final discussion ready. But, she was just an asshole in her soul and she hated me, so she didn't let me pass her exam.
Then I had the permission from the Dean to change the professor and I pass it just fine and finally I got my degree, after 2 years of postponing it, because of that asshole of professor.

I know how you feel. I failed my Freshmen year biology class (the professor was horrible). I had to retake it in the summer. I always thought I was gonna flunk out. But I stayed and graduated this past May.

Oh don't worry man, I'm sorta in your situation. The mid term is up on us and i know for a fact I'm not going to pass at lest two classes this semester, UNLESS i make a huge turn around an study hard. Me and my friends just laugh it off when we fuck up hard on a test just because we know we can do nothing about it e(ven when we know we study ed hard) expect hope for extra credit. I personally don't know you but man, don't get worked up over it, its not the end of the world, we just have to roll with the punches, things will get better. (*8*)

Sweety, I took Chemistry at the university level. Good tutoring when you don't understand a topic and use the solutions manual. I studied the solutions manual and did very well in the course.

Do not give up. It's possible. I lived by Solutions manuals in Chem, Bio and Physics.

Good luck!!!

no worries boy. I got a 56 on my Bio Mid-term. Now you can just know better for next time. Besides for the most part college professors don't care what you get as long as you show up to class. So i totally know where your coming from since I'm in the same place.

drop it and take it in summer session. lab work is reduced due to time contraints and material is pounded into your brain on a daily basis so exams are easier. worked for me. that + riding the grade curve.

Don't let it get you down. My first year as a Freshmen in college, I got a big fat "F" in my anthropology class because I didn't take it too serious. However, that was one big wake up call and when I repeated the class, I got an A+ and it turns out that the professor makes a huge difference and would you believe that the professor that I failed was the wife of the one I retook and got the A+... go figure.

Fucking right man, I hate college too.

I tried to think of something more supportive to say but... its some bullshit isn't it?

Right there with you

Take a deep breath and cool off.

This is coming from a str8 (the only str8 thing in an otherwise superb gay life) A student.

I aced all my exams with ease and elegance. (I poured over the books like there was no tomorrow but was far too self-conceited to admit anything of the kind.)

And so, there comes one very nerdy subject with a superbly nerdy Prof. in charge of it. So, I hit the wall and failed flat out. All of my friends thought, it was some kind of a bad joke. I knew, it wasn't.

For all of my knowledge and skill, I was simply not capable of learning that amount of useless information by heart. No matter, how hard I tried, I was looking into the next failure. To make it even better, there was nothing I was able to do about it. I was neither able to skip the subject nor was I able to change the Prof. It looked like trying to learn the NYC phone book by heart and obviously, being doomed to fail each and every time.

Surprisingly, little nerds, geeks and even a few dorks were passing with average grades. I was doing something very wrong.

So, I went to a Prof., who was a good friend, who knew the matter well, but was not involved with teaching the subject at that time. He looked at me and said, I was so full of it. A 4 year old could do it easily... So, he sat with me for about two hours and reorganized this whole amazingly useless set hard facts into a most intricate diagram showing all kinds of complex connections and interactions.

I saw the light. It took me only couple of hours to figure it all out.

So, do not whine or anything. Go and get some good help.

SC

I know im not trying to whine, its just hard sometimes, I feel much better now after reading all the posts, thanks alot everyone, i love u all.

I almost dropped out of grad school in my first semester when I got an F in a midterm. I stuck with it though after the professor called me at home and we had a very candid talk. If it wasn't for that one phone call, I wouldn't have the MBA or the couple of promotions that followed it.

Whether as a supervisor or a friend, I always try to be as supportive & encouraging as that professor was to me.

Stick with it. It's these little speed bumps that build character and help us grow.
It sounds trite but it's really true that it's not important how many time you fall down. It's how many time you get up that counts. And when you walk down the aisle on graduation day, you'll know you've earned that degree.
