So long story short, life is a shit hole right now, I'm now only working 4 days a week, for a much reduced pay packet, with of course reduced super annuation, holiday leave entitlements and other benefits.

At least you have a job.

Personally I don't care about losing a job (I think that happened only twice in 31 jobs (the others ended or I quit)). It's going to the troube of finding a new one...

I'm not really feeling sorry for myself I guess. I'm more saddened by loosing my coordinator, marketing and designer's cause we were such a close team. It was awful there today and I feel like I've lost part of my family. It was so sudden. No notice, nothing. One minute they were there, the next gone. It's like a death.

Any chance of getting the airline to give you a credit toward a future purchase rather than refunding the ticket minus the penalty? That might be less of a penalty than the refund, and you'll have a year from the original date of issue to re-use the credit, minus an administrative fee.

Airlines and credit card companies are notorious for taking your money quicker than they give it back. My clients constantly ask me the same question, and there's really no answer other than the airlines and credit cards want to make a few coins off of the interest for a month while they hold onto your money. Eventually they do give it back, though.

I am a victim of corporate downsizing - so, all I can say at this point is be thankful that you are not looking for a job. It sucks. In my old company they cut the field offices by about 40% - let go everyone at those offices, and about 40% of the corporate staff was let go also. It was a blood bath.

What a shocking disappointment Ravenstar! Gosh that sucks!! Feel free to fuss all you want. I'll be thinking about you!

I personally dislike it when folks tell ya to be thankful for what ya have when you're just trying to express how you feel. I know you're thankful to still have a job and I realize there are folks who are unemployed all together, but that doesn't mean you're not disappointed in this outcome and worried about paying future bills. It's like you're always expected to have a sunny disposition and are never allowed to express doubt and fear, since there's always going to be someone who has it worse than you. I think you're entitled to fuss a vent.

Sure that sucks and all, but a lot of us are in a far worse rut. So your plans to travel were postponed/canceled. Yes that's unfortunate, but at least you get the four days a week that you do get. I get less than 10 hours a week now. I have to choose between food and rent.
