I have a newfound respect for Gaddafi

What if you were to refer to it as simply horse manure? Does use of non offensive language make it less offensive?

JB_18 thanks for taking on the "lets post ridiculous BS and call it a thread" type post in order to elevate but unfortunately after three elections here at JUB this type of flame sprayed silliness with tons of 'oh yeahs' and 'atta boys' will just get worse until Say mid November of 2012.

Say what you want about him. Call him a dictator, a murderer, a thief and more. But, just don't call him a coward.

He could have bailed and accepted exile, but decided to stay (and died) in Libya.

Compare that to his peers here like Reagan, Bush, and Cheney who all dodged the wars they could have participated in. Cheney even enrolled in a community college several times to get out of war and by then, he was a law school graduate.

While Gaddafi died a brutal death, at least he stood for what he believed in. I can respect that. I don't respect starting wars, getting people killed while you yourself refused to participate in it.

I disagree with you completely. Gaddafi ddn't ''bail'' bcuz no1 else wanted him. tht's y he was in hiding. dont u remember they found him n a sewer pipe, he begged 4 his life and then was shot n the head. what a stupid thing 2 say after he ordered the brutal deaths of so many ppl. I am the last 1 to agree to the sort of street justice that was handed out 2 him, but Gaddafi got what he deserved, imo. i think the only thing that is scarier than Gaddafi is the person who will b replacing him. Libya isn't known for the democratic process.

Hmm, except LostLover's topic is not really about Gadaffi, it's more about criticizing a former presidential administration by inaccurately glorifying a terrible dictator.

I just re-read OP post #1. His topic is Gadaffi. Your topic is what you perceive him to be saying.

In another time I might have said "Read his lips."

Plainly put, you want to extinguish his post because you misperceive the topic. I call a foul.

He stayed in Libya. He could have taken asylum in Niger, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Burkina Faso, Algeria or Nicaragua.

Gaddafi wanted to live. I guess fault him for wanting to live.

Gaddafi isn't noble. He just isn't a pussy or a chickenhawk like people his age in the US. Bush, Cheney, and Reagan would have shitted their pants if they were in his position. I probably would have too if I was in Gaddafi's place, but unlike all of them, I'm not starting unnecessary wars.

all those countries are breeding grounds for dictators. this would b like the USA taking in Hitler after he committed his atrocities. only a countries like that can sympathize with a mad murderer like Gaddafi. face it hon he got what he deserved, and his punishment was not doled out by the USA, but by his own people. When i ws in high school their was a film on Gaddafi I saw n history class, the man was plain scary, almost demonic imo.

What are you talking about? There were 6 or 7 countries that offered him asylum. Niger and Algeria have already accepted family members.

If Bush ran from war when he was of age, I don't think we need to wonder what he would have done if he was Gaddafi. The difference is, Gaddafi talked the talk and walked the walk.

The more France keeps boasting about getting oil contracts, the more sane Gaddafi becomes. He's been anti-imperialist the last four decades. And then, he's overthrown by a coalition spearheaded by a country boasting about signing contracts for exploring Libyan oil.

Dude, where were you during the Iraq war? Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died because of Bush and Cheney's choices? Seriously? You don't hold them responsible for their own decisions?

It's unfortunate that many Iraqis died in the war, and yes the war was a mistake.

But Bush/Cheney did not order the killing of civilians, Gaddafi did. That's what makes your comparison absurd.

he died there because he was caught by the other side before he could get the Hell out of the place.
He had more than ample amounts of time to GTFO of Libya...look at how quickly the ruler of Tunisia was able to leave.

Using your "get the Hell out of the place" quote entirely LITERALLY, and not in its intended way, also works. Now that he is dead, that doesn't prevent what is now a power vacuum, and chances are excellent that some rather nefarious types will ascend to power, as happened in Egypt. Therefore, he did NOT "get the Hell out of the place" - the Hell will probably remain there for years to come...

I do find it more than interesting that both [STRIKE]Gadhafi[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Quadaphy[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Qadaphi[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Khadaffy[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Kaddaphi[/STRIKE] Libya's former ruler, and Saddam Hussein, were caught in very CRUDE hiding lairs below ground level.
