What's with signers and 'Captain' in the YouTube name? The guy I posted is called CaptainValor.

Re: I have a question (I can EDIT this title if I want??)

well to be fair not just a few deaf people are more or less mute, or at least can't speak. but even that is not because they are dumb, obviously. i have never met a deaf person who couldn't communicate in writing.
it's very sad to hear that people make this weird assumption .. it's even more sad that i'm not really surprised by this anymore

Which is actually what I thought the OP was asking, right away - "Because my username implies that I'm deaf, do you also assume that I am unable to speak?"

I don't think it's used as often (pretty much replaced by "mute"), but I'm rather certain that one of the dictionary definitions for DUMB is having the inability to speak.

Also, seeing that the question apparently was about being stupid, rather than not being able to talk, my reaction was WTF? There's no connection between those two things. Sort of like trying to assume that somebody is stupid, because his aunt's car (and she lives in a city 400 miles away) didn't start yesterday.

▲ Perhaps you would like all ten of us that I know are deaf at JUB to prove it too you, but we are not really interested.

I was deaf for nine years, and then last year I had a cochlear implant. Now I hear. Thank goodness no one ever tried to treat me as a stupid man. The dumb has been all those people over the years who have chosen to believe that deaf, and mute people (who also sign with their hands) are stupid, or as they say dumb.

If that had happened, I would have been glad to show them my degrees from Yale University, and my honors. I must admit I am annoyed that a JUBber would do that here. Is't it sad that we who are often the cruel objects of stereotyping, do it just as much or maybe even more. to one another.

Thanks DeafFoxDemon.

^ Yeah, I have come to really hate stereotyping.

I actually talk to DeafFoxDemon a lot, and really enjoy it. It's sad that someone would make assumptions without knowing him, or anyone for that matter.

I have certainly met some incredibly stupid people that drive BMW's and are surgically grafted to their cell phones. The moment they open their mouths..... just WOW. HOW did they live this long???? But that's yet another issue.

Well, you certainly are deaf, you may very well be a fox, only you know if you are a demon, but dumb? I think not. Don't give these idiots a second thought.
