  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

I have a snake in my pond!

How can I get rid of him without harming him or the environment?

Snakes are part of a healthy environment, getting rid of him will harm this environment, remember we are all gods creatures.
Leave him be, you have probably eaten fish and maybe frogs (legs) in the past, what would we do if they got rid of you?

It's a garter snake leave it alone and enjoy nature in it's complete state.

Yup, sounds like a garter snake.

By the way, snakes can only be "poisonous" if you eat them and they have e. coli.

Otherwise they can be "venomous" if they bite and inject venom.

Picky English major here 8').

Stevenavy, Iowagunns and I will launch the fleet and come to your rescue!!! ..|

I like snakes. Please don't hurt it RL. :( If it is a garter snake (and it sounds like it is) and you really want to get rid of it, just reach in and grab it and drop it off down the road. Grab it behind the head... I believe you have experience with that. ;)

Yep....it sounds like a garter snake, and the pic sure looks like mine. If it weren't for the fact that my partner gets really freaked about snakes (when he has nightmares, he dreams about snakes), I'd leave the thing alone.

I'll see if I can coax him into my fish net and take him for a short ride down the road to a nice creek I know. That should keep him happy -- and away from our cute little froggies.

Thanks, everyone!

(PS) If you have more suggestions, or happen to be Samuel L. Jackson, please continue to post in this thread.

Most garter snakes have mouths too little for frogs and fish. They live mostly on insects and and garden worms. But--I don't like them hanging around my pond. They have a way of peeking through the rocks when I am working on the pond and scaring the shit out of me. I am a true son of Eve.

We've always had garter snakes eat our frogs, but only the larger snakes and the smaller frogs.

RL... if I lived near you, I'd come over and snag it for you. Be sure there's a nice creek bed with some sunlight where you drop it off.

I call the humane society (animal control) . Look it up in your phone book. I have had them pick up a rabbit that drowned in my pond, a squirrel that got into the bird seed bin and piged out too much and died, and other neighbors have had them pick up rattlesnakes.

Do not worry Monsieur, i weel send you Mon Goose....

Thought maybe you could send him here to be released in my attic. ;)

With the stipulation, of course, that you come along with in order to recapture him when the job's done. :D

Recapture? You just shoot them!

I hope your partner doesn't get the poor little snake hurt.
You should be flattered that he/she likes your pond.
You should both meditate until you eliminate this entirely unneccesary mental distraction.

I've never heard of meditating snakes away before.

Do mongooses (or is that "mongeese") meditate?

My neighbor has a koi pond -- and it attracts copperheads.

Now that it is fall you can be sure that I'll walk into the garage one brisk morning and find one cozily enjoying the warmth.

Nearby at the spillway it seems to be a venomous snake crossing. The neighbors think the water moccasins and copperheads like the field rats in the woods behind the lake.

After Katrina snakes would be on the limbs we were picking up in the yard. Quite startling, as someone earlier stated.

I hate snakes...kill it please. I cant even deal with them on TV.
