Yesterday evening I felt just a trace of dizziness. I wondered why? This morning I was still dizzy and wasn't sure if I had an upset stomach or not, but decided that I did not. I had toast and orange juice and ginger ale for breakfast and later vomited that. At that point I had a headache as well. Although I had a flu shot six weeks earlier; with a headache, dizziness, and an upset stomach I decided that I had the flu. I was able to hold down Lipton chicken noodle soup for lunch and did have some supper. I am better now, but not totally good yet. It must be a 36 hour flu. I didn't expect that since I had a flu shot.

Honey go get tested for Covid! I thought my chest issues were from an asthma flare turns out it was covid! I'm not trying to worry you its just that everyone manifests it differently my ma threw up (SHE NEVER DOES!!!) my dad had the sniffles! I had chest tightness/congestion low fever 99.8 night sweats and chills for 3 days me and my ma had a pronounced cough my dad coughed a few times every few hours! So go get a test man it's the only way to be sure.

Yeah, you need to call your doctor and see if they want you to get a nasal swab test- they can test for both influenza and COVID-19 from the swab.

The current version of the flu vaccine is a "best guess" because the influenza virus mutates so quickly. It is possible to come down with the flu after you get the flu shot but our hope is that it's a shorter and milder illness because your immune system was primed by the vaccine to battle the virus, so that you're not sick for 7-10 days like a typical flu illness.

^I wish 7-10 days Kara my damn asthma triggers and its a 4-5 week affair including my Freshmen sophomore and junior years missing a week each. My bastard guidance counselor had the gall to say I was milking it, I had a fever every day I was home but yes"milking it" fuckin dumbass where's your medical degree doc? This was the same prick who in junior I wanted to take honors French 1 and he's all like well you don't wanna sit in a Freshmen Class It was like yeah I do, so because he refused to sign off I had to take math intermediate algebra...After chapter 3 COMPLETELY LOST!

I've been saying that I am dizzy, but actually it is not vertigo but my equilibrium. I am staggering around a little, especially when I first get up, and then it is somewhat better, but not 100%. Anyways, I called my primary doctor this morning and after telling him about my equilibrium and that I had an upset stomach, which was better later on Wednesday, but still have a minor problem with my balance, he said to call my ear doctor. I have a regular ear doctor because I had Meniere's Disease in my ear many years ago. I called my ear doctor and he doesn't have any appointments until mid January. I decided to let it go and see if it continues, but his assistant did say that if it gets worse to call back on Monday and they will try to squeeze me in.

I am okay with this^. It is what I was inclined to do except I was just concerned with the weekend coming followed by the holiday that I would have trouble getting a doctor later if I didn't try now. Thanks for everyone's help.

Flu shots are only predictors of the strains of upcoming flu variants and may not be accurate, so you may still develop the flu if the prediction is wrong.

The flu shot sometimes produces a mild version of the flu because the immune system is still activated, but it is generally better than having full flu symptoms. You probably had a mild version from the flu shot and picked up a different variant 6 weeks later.

A Doctor once told my Father that you need 7 years of flu shots to cover most of the variants: not sure how accurate that is. He was very sick after having a flu shot, but that was probably because the shot was for a different strain.

Flu infection can affect the eustachian tube, resulting in disturbance of balance.

Apart from deciding whether to isolate or not and for tracking purposes, I can't see how a Covid test is going to help recovery: if someone is sick enough to be hospitalised with Covid, then they will be assessed at that time for treatment as there isn't anything you can do at home to aid your immune response.

I am well now. Thank you for your advice.
Glad to hear that you're feeling better. It sounds like if you had the flu, you were fortunate to have had a mild case which is always good.

Just to make this clear: You cannot get the flu from the flu shot. It does not contain live virus.

I think what you want to say here is that the current flu shot is designed to give the immune system an exposure to an influenza virus to the strain of influenza that might be circulating months later. The influenza virus isn't one virus- it's a group of slightly different viruses. As we get further into the flu season, the less likely it is that the combination of antigens in the shot will match the virus that is in community circulation. In a good year, the flu shot is between 40-60% effective which means that about half the people who get the shot will either not get the flu or will have a milder version of the flu.

The 10 day isolation is part of the reason. Also notifying your contacts would also help. I have heard many stories over the past couple of weeks about people who went to a party or a dinner only to find out that they were in the room with someone who had coronavirus. By notifying your contacts, you will prompt them to get tested and if they are infected, they will know to isolate and to notify their contacts to get tested.

Yesterday, nearly 220,000 people tested positive for coronavirus. The newer strains of SARS-CoV-2 are more contagious, so if we can get just 50% of those people to stay home and not expose other people to the virus, it will help get that number down.
