As I posted last week I saw a neurologist about a medication change for a seizure disorder.
He quickly noticed atrophy on my left hand and had me take my shirt off, I explained to him that the atrophy began in a neck muscle when I was in my 20's and seemed confined to that muscle until maybe 15 years ago.

Now it's in my shoulder, chest, abdomen and I think my knee, all on the left side. I am in constant pain and my activities are becoming more limited. I bought a weight set to fight it and it just irritated things.

I am also scheduled for an EMG. I should have had it looked at years ago, but, I didn't want to know. I had to keep working, fighting and ignoring, it's just my nature.

I have been on line trying to find symptoms that match up to what I have, maybe not the best idea.

I will ask, has anyone ever heard of something of this nature?

Thou shalt not seek info on the internet (for this). You might jump to conclusions.

I don't have a license to practice medicine on the internet (or anywhere else). I don't make predictions, but your being scared is common and normal.

Good luck! ..|

Friend, I wish you the best on your diagnosis, prognosis, and recovery.

I have my own ills that I choose to go in with from time to time. Never give the docs too much free rein, but do let them have a crack at it now and then.

I'm no doctor either but I want you to get an answer that will replace your fears with facts. Medical certainty beats speculation.

pee, I hope you get a benign (AND KNOWABLE) result with your tests. I don't think you want it to be some new syndrome that gets named after you. Really,. I hope for some news that will be helpful for you.

About self-diagnosis on the internet: Of course, unless somebody has a hangnail or something, one of the causes of pain is always cancer!

So, I don't trust it inherently, but it's helped me diagnose a couple of things.

I may never know what I seem to have successfully fought off the past four days...it started with a scratchy throat, but it went into my chest and I was achy in some places, but most tellingly on the sides of my rib cage. That's gone now, the cough is almost gone, but I'm wondering if I successfully fought pneumonia? I had my pneumonia vaccinations a few years ago, and I wonder if that may have stopped this in its tracks...there just aren't that many things that make the sides of your ribs ache (though it was only minor).

However, I never felt any change in lung capacity.

Good luck with the MRI.

Just be patient and wait for the results from the Docs.

In the world of 'OMG what is wrong with me!!!???'....take some comfort that at least it is one thing that doesn't sound like cancer.

I know a few people with levoscoliosis, that complained of those same symptoms.

Good luck with everything.

Hope your well try not to think of it . Remember its is what you do not know about that can end it. Good the Doctor wants to go this route!

I guess I'd counsel to do your best to not be defined by your condition, even if it may limit your future in whatever way. That's not the same as denying its existence.

None of us are promised a tomorrow, a healthy life, a freedom from pain. Some of us are burdened much more so than others with health.

It is my goal to try to live today, to look forward as much as possible to tomorrows, but to avoid presumption of what tomorrow will bring. I hope you can rise above your pain and that you are helped as much as possible in getting relief.
