I Hereby Declare Godwin's Law Null and Void

I wasn't comparing draft dodgers with non-voters.

I would. Those who shirk their duties are cadgers.

The last war involving U.S. conscription was Vietnam. Are you seriously comparing that colossal war-crimes fuckup by avoiding slave-status "duty" as child murderers in an imperialistic orgasm to non-voters?

No comment whatsoever on the war, on slaves, on child murderers, or anything other than draft dodgers doing what they thought necessary NOT to do their 'civic duty' when told that they MUST. That is, they were told that they MUST sign up to go to war. They refused.

I'm making no other comments at all.

Read my above comments on the Vietnam War.

There's a big difference between a draft dodger and a non-voter. Maybe if we went vote by mail nationwide, the amount of people voting would go up. It's a whole lot easier voting that way. Fill your ballot out, put a stamp on it and mail it. That's the way we do it here (Washington state). There are also drop boxes, many located at public libraries.

For those that don't vote, don't bitch about government to me. If you don't vote, you (in my opinion) have no right to bitch.

Given that there are always candidates not from the "big two", I generally agree. If enough people vote for other candidates, someone will pay attention. Of course it would help if candidates actually had to get a majority -- preferably not just of votes cast but of registered voters, or at least of ballots turned in so that leaving a race blank would be a vote against all candidates.

Some of this I addressed in my response to gsdx.

I don't disagree. Nonetheless, they have a will, and we are seeing these type of people support Trump and Bernie. So why aren't more people motivated to participate? It's a good question. Perhaps there are cynics who don't see how political revolution is possible or any way in which government is a means for them to improve their lives. Thus, compulsory voting would probably overturn the state of affairs causing such people to be apathetic - a self fulfilling prophecy.

Compulsory voting wouldn't change much of anything unless we could vote "None of the Above" and a candidate had to have a majority of ballots turned in, not just a plurality of the votes cast in a given contest. There has to be a way to say "We don't want any of you trash!", e.g. if "None of the Above" wins, all the candidates are thrown out and can't try again in a new election. Though that would be different if we voted by party, which is a better option anyway because people could vote for people who actually would represent them (and not merely de jure).

People who know they're not going to be represented aren't going to vote, so we need a system where people can actually be represented, i.e. have someone speak for them and not for some ideology regardless of what the constituents want.
