Cool story bro' time.

I was at a car boot sale this morning, total waste of time, nothing worth shelling out for, i was just about to sit down and have a cup of coffee and a burger when i noticed the cardboard boxes at the side begin to move, now of course i immediately thought it was a rat or perhaps a dog hiding from me, but no it was an old alkie, he was in a terrible state smelling of rotten cabbage and old sweat, anyhow, i sat him down and bought him a cup of tea and a hotdog followed by a huge Chelsea bun, i left him sitting there and went for a looksee on the stalls and managed to find him a new coat for just £7.50, he was almost crying at his change of luck.

Anyhoo are you good to the down and outs, do you give them a couple of shillings to get a dram or two ?

A few weeks back a young guy about 20 asked me for some change outside of the food store where I shop, I gave him $5.00. I have one account on my lawn service where the woman has stage 4 cancer, her family hired me to cut her grass weekly and haven't paid me in 3 weeks, the last thing that this woman needs is a notice from the park bugging her about her lawn so I will keep cutting it, pay or no pay. I try to do good where I can.

The guy I hired to help move cabinets seems to be down and out, somewhat inexplicably when one considers the boom that North Alabama is experiencing. Anyone who wants to work is, but he, as others before him, seems to have trouble actually putting in a full day's work any particular day. Also, he may have prison in his past, but I didn't ask. He and his wife do odd jobs, and she works for someone as well.

I bought two storage units full of salvaged cabinets from a veterinary clinics remodel, and they came with about eight commercial grade doors that I didn't need. So, I gave them to him, in addition to paying him more than the agreed price. He was good help in moving them and it all went very well.

He was back today to do odd jobs but couldn't seem to complete anything, and every time he estimated how long it would take to do simple tasks, he inflated the hours noticeably. I gave him an extra push mower I had when he mentioned his not working. I just bought it last month when mine was on the fritz, but it was used and not expensive.

Anyway, I don't trust him enough to let him work without me here, but I wish him well. I just can't be here during the week to watch things and keep him on task. A lot of underemployed people are like him. Not homeless. Not an addict. Just not prone to working hard every day so to reduce the chance of getting behind on bills.

I hate to say it but it really sounds like drugs or at least alcohol. It's hard to tell sometimes.

Hopefully there's
a Heaven for all the good souls in the world.

I hope you lock up tight when not at home Jase.

I hope you die at night when at home Jase.

I have been careful, although I have nought to steal. But I don't like people in my house when I am not there, and I have bought all new locks a year ago, so now would be a good time to install them.

Thanks for the care. ;)

He talked about a brother on drugs and said he himself had an addiction to it once. Either his brain is fried, or he isn't clean. I didn't detect any signs, and I've been around plenty of users. He was just so unable to keep instructions clear that I couldn't trust him in my absence.

He was also on the texting too much with his family, and that never goes over well when you're working a half day and still can't be arsed to stay on task. He'd also start talking and stop working unless I moved away.

Once or twice I have bought a meal for someone who asked for one. A few times I gave money to a beggar, but I am never sure that they will use it for food. I am more likely to donate small sums to charities that I trust. I have never bought clothes for anyone. Cheers to you Cormac for your generosity.

Yup. I will buy anyone down on their luck a meal.
