  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I learned something today.

I learned that mixing a dozen or so different kinds of drinks can result in what tastes like berry-pine needle rubbing alcohol.

and that watermelon is actually an effective chaser when necessary!

People seem to have a weird guilt complex about everything at the moment. Look at the number of closet cases banging on about god hates gays. Best not to worry about then and live your own life.

I just wanted to say "Happy Birthday" and thank you, marleyisalegend, for bringing a breath of fresh air to this forum. You posts are always interesting, and they make me think. I don't know why blacks and whites can't talk about these issues and the racist history of our country. You would think that after over two centuries we could begin to have some kind of dialogue. So I say, keep on keepin' on, my friend !!

I don't worry, it just frustrates me when every goddamn thread about black history has to be closed because of ignorant, uneducated, threatened-by-anything-back cry babies. Black people do it too.

We study EVERYBODY'S history, yet when it comes to 200 years of black history, we run from it like the plague, act as if it didn't happen, or can ONLY counter it with "all blacks wants handouts". I guess I was expecting to attract more educated JUBers but I got the lowest common denominator posting in my thread.

If you are a descendant of slaves then your family has been here in the USofA longer than mine. My family never owned slaves; nor do I currently. (Willing to accept all applicants ;))

There are far many more years of black history other than the 200 years you refer to.

Let's talk about human history. It all started in Africa. From there we have this whole fucked up world that each and every one of us has reason to rail against!

Why is this always mentioned. BLACKS DISCUSSING IT DO NOT WANT GUILT!

Not trying to pass guilt. I don't want guilt either. It was a fucked up time.

WHY IS IT TREATED AS ALL OR NOTHING? IS ONE FUCKING DISCUSSION TOO MUCH TO ASK?? I didn't say "let's only talk about slavery for the next 1,000 years". I bring up one slavery thread and you'd think I was trying to re-write the constitution.

Nope, that's not what I think. I'm just trying to engage you.

Let's not. Humans suck.

Exactly.

Nope. We don't have the right to rail against it, cuz of sensitive, uneducated ninnies.

Are you talking about me? Yes, I may be a ninny but I'm not uneducated. Stupid? possibly. Ignorant? Absolutely.

Educate me, just don't chastise me. I'd like to understand.

Oh, and again, happy birthday!

Coincidentally I just recently figured out that there's a good chance that some of my ancestors were in fact slaveholders.

So -- I apologize. And happy birthday!

... and in other news, I kind of wouldn't mind having a slave myself. A different kind nacherly :sex: I'm sure there's no connection...

Shit, im half white, and i dont feel any guilt whatsoever, my dads family didnt come to the US from puerto Rico until 1960, and my moms family didnt come to the US from Czeckoslovakia until 1942.

and shit....my great grandpa on my dads side was black.

Oh yeah, happy Birthday marley!

The irony, the mention of guilt at all. You and others keep insisting "I don't want guilt," and "Don't make me feel guilty". Did I ask anyone to? Did I say, DAMN YOU FOR OWNING SLAVES? I'm no Einstein, but I don't think you, your mom, your gramma, hell, maybe even your great gramma owned any slaves. I think it happened LONG before you came to be.

Not to get all he said, he sad, but... You mentioned guilt first. Something like, "ALL BLACKS DO NOT WANT GUILT." As if you are speaking for all blacks.

I know I'm raising your ire. Please, take a breath.

That's the thing. You CAN NOT educate ANYONE on slavery. As soon as you mention it, it's perceived as chastising.

Here's the thing I don't understand, and pardon me if you've addressed this before, slavery went on long before it was established in what became the USofA.

True, I will never know what you experience.

Will you ever understand, acknowledge, welcome those of us different than you that simply want to embrace you as a fellow human being?

Happy birthday anyway. I just spent this weekend celebrating my sister's bday!

I'm well aware. Those pyramids look LOVELY don't they. SOMEBODY did a good job on those things. Hope they were fairly compensated for their backbreaking work MINUS air conditioning, MINUS paychecks, MINUS not getting whipped.........

What are you talking about? I'm talking about slavery. The only slavery I experience is slavery to the beat!

*does a sexy merengue*

No, I'm too busy crying about slavery and demanding "Death to Whitey" and calculating how many acres and mules I deserve:wink:

My b-day was Sunday, it's Monday now, and I'm running out of malt liquor.:(

Thank you! You finally gave me a belly chuckle! A LOL moment!

I'm drinking cheap (I mean CHEAP) white wine and smoking copious amounts of fags.

I hope your bday lasts all week!

This is what I love. People get my humor, but completely twist my character when I try to be serious. Not you, but how do I go from being funny and loveable to a baiting troll just by asking 20 questions about slavery?

I'm drinking a cheap maltish winish kinda thing, Mad Dog 20/20. Everybody tells me it's homeless people liquor, I guess cuz it's only $1.99, and I'm smokin' up a storm. I just realized what a minstrel show I am. I'm fine when I'm shuckin and jivin, but as soon as I talk about slavery I get painted with the same brush as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, as if it's impossible for Marley to discuss black history cuz apparently all I want is reparations. Nope, just wanted discussion.

... Nope, just wanted discussion.

Mon ami, me too.

I find this subject infinitely fascinating.

I don't know the correct thing to say to facilitate a rational discussion.

How do you ask the question without being misunderstood. I don't know. Just keep asking the question.

My question is, why is there a distinction being made, at this day in age, regarding ethnicity? Whenever I encounter a form that ask for a distinction I mark other. I fill in the blank with "human."

Why is Barak Obama or Tiger Woods referred to as an African-American? Fuck that, they are americans. Just as I am. And members of the human race.

I know I'm not fully getting you. Just random thoughts.

Stop calling me that, it's making me wanna bend over and let u have ur way with me.

Oh honey! What I wouldn't give?

I agree with you in that idealogy, but in reality I know better. I'm black first, gay second, a man third to some people. My skin color and orientation carry heavy burdens that shift between heavy days, and heavier days. Except the days where I take my fukitol in the morning, and I try to remember those erryday.

"fukitol" That's fukin funny!

Are you really (REALLY) black? I love it that you are gay. And a gay male. Fantastic! But black? 100%?

Cuz they're skin is dark, it'd be impossible for them to pass as white, even white with a tan.

And isn't that just fucked up? I'm stupid. I just don't get it. What difference does it make? (Again, I may never get it!)

Idealistically yes, realistically, no. An American can run for president without their color being at the forefront of discussion. They're AFRICAN American. Gotta remind people that they're black so they know to lock their doors and do background checks.

In 1960 religion was a HUGE issue.

You're not that dense, you know what I'm talking about, you're just a few light years ahead of all these mindless cretins who can't ignore skin color.

Why can't they ignore skin colour? (I'm going to be controversial here.) Is it possible that skin colour/slavery is thrown in one's face? And why not? Differentness it thrown in the face of all of us everyday.

(Taking another sip/gulp of wine and drawing another drag on a fag.)

So! Did you learn anything else today?

I did!

Cheers!

I've always found this phenomena quite bizarre. Why should any white person now living feel any guilt over the slave trade? It's not like they had any say in the matter, any control over what their ancestors did, on account of,errrr, not being born.

I find this response a common one but also one I do not understand. It's akin to Paris Hilton saying she has nothing to do with hotels. While true, that is where her lifestyle originated. White folks got a jump start on the black backs of centuries of free labor. Get it?

That people are big whiney babies who get jealous if the attention is taken off them for .05 seconds.

Honey! My father always cautioned me to avoid pointing fingers. If you are pointing a finger at someone, you have three fingers pointing back at you.

I'm not looking for attention.

Are you?

I'm aware, anyone who reads my post without bias knows I've apologized and accepted being wrong numerous times on this site.

But this is clear, cut, and dry. They slaughtered my thread with dramatics and histrionics, and insults to my intelligence and character.

They? How dare they!

No, I'm looking for the one in a million that doesn't think Marley's a race-card throwing enflaming unintelligent, lazy, want-free-handouts slobbish troll

If I may, I am that one in a million. I don't find your words to be any of those things. Certainly not unintelligent or lazy.

Angry comes to my mind. Almost like there isn't a salve for your anger. Is your anger justified? Most certainly.

Can you get past the anger?

Yeah, I think the LLama Beans went to sleep.

Baa.

I don't know what sounds the Llama makes but I think you are correct. Not the right time to engage a large audience. It's late.

It's late. It is 6:30+ for you. Go to bed.
