  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I learned something today.

England and Canada also had slaves. The United States wasn't alone.

However, in 1807, British Parliament passed the Slave Trade Act, making the trading of slaves illegal throughout the British Empire. People were still allowed to have slaves, but they couldn't trade them like commodities.

In 1833, the Slavery Abolition Act was passed and, on August 1, 1834, all slaves in the British Empire were emancipated.

It was just as much a part of our history as it was for the United States, but it's not a big deal anymore. It happened. We learned from it. We moved on.

Thank you gsdx. Thank you for making my point. Oh, and may I just say I love you? Yes, yes I do, gsdx.

May I also say that Canada was/is ahead of the US? Canada abolished slavery 30 years before the US.

Recently Canada abolished discrimination towards homosexuals. Please, let us hope that the US is not 30 years behind Canada on the issue of homosexual marriage/equal rights for same-sex couples.

Let me tell you about an interaction I had with a Canadian native.....
