  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I like Frankfrank

Would you believe I joined here nine years ago TODAY - and, in fact, I think nearly at the same hour.

I hope these holidays (including Christmas, of course), are good to all of you.

I bet this will surprise him :) And there are so many others like him here too, I think.
Yeah, you got that right. :) There are definitely others here, a good part of why I like this place...and I like you all. I like to "do the right thing" whenever I can, even though that all has to rely on my judgment and perceptions.

Having met Frankfrank in person, I can confirm that he is indeed a scholar and gentleman!

hope the weather isn't too beastly there...:D
Uh wait, Ron - YOU'RE the scholar!! LOL

As far as beastly weather, no...not at all. I'm quite surprised, actually - it's supposed to get up nearly to FIFTY on Christmas Day here. The forecast has changed drastically the past week for Christmas, because originally it was supposed to be in the lower 20's for a high, after Christmas Eve snow.

There are JUB meet ups? Int.er.es.ting...
I note you joined about seven months ago. Unfortunately the JUB meet happened before you joined, at the end of September 2013. There were eleven of us, but never more than seven at one time or was it eight? (At the Brazilian restaurant on 47th just west of Broadway, Saturday night.)

But much MORE UNFORTUNATELY, the powers-that-be at JUB don't give a shit about JUB meets, and they do nothing whatsoever to encourage them, despite "sticky threads" promising otherwise, such as promotions and free T-shirts for those attending, etc. It is possible there will never be another JUB meet, which is sad.

There may be some unofficial and small JUB meet in early Fall of 2015. Most likely it would involve a Friday and/or a Saturday, pretty much never a Sunday.

For Frank.

From Santa.

I'd hit it!!

^ No thanks! Talk about a job that is "thankless" - and soaks up a ton of time.

As centexfarmer described to me back in his Mod days when I visited him, you don't even want to KNOW what goes on in the background, that we never see. The relentless fight against spam and bots, etc.

Got way way too much going on already...

*bump*

Just noticed this thread and have to agree wholeheartedly.

Little-known fact:

I've actually been on the road with him! (!)

He drove me from Minneapolis to Duluth, in 2010.

I really wish the '2015 me' could have that meetup all over again.

I'm a vastly more communicative and confident person now than I once was.

^ Yes, just after the weekend-long JUB meet there. Oh, for more meets like that one. How sad there's no encouragement for meets to take place, from the powers-that-be here.

Maybe I'll get together with the "2015, 2016 or 2017 you" if I go to UK...I'm looking on a big solo trip SOMEWHERE this year, and when by myself I prefer a place where English is at least halfway useful if not fully so. I'm trying to travel to "another part of the world" once a year now, but I'm leaning somewhat more New Zealand and/or Australia this year. "And" only works if I'm gone at least 15-16 days or more. In the case of Australia, a visit with OZGUY would be a "geographic bucket list" thing, because his city is the farthest-from-me city in the world.

Andrew, I'll bet you're glad that you moved, after the storm that I saw on the map earlier this week. Yikes!!!

I often wondered why he named himself twice, but, stupid me, just realised that his user name is an adjective followed by a proper noun.

I thought it meant we were supposed to put a stamp on him.

There are some small towns that are farther from me (Margaret River, Augusta...and Bunbury might be a "tied" distance) but close enough.

Actually, my mind and head was putting Albany where Augusta is...

Among the world's nations, the ones I "would not visit" and ones I "would visit" are about the same number, so plenty of alternatives exist.

*cough*

May I offer my geographical corrections to your assumptions?

OK now....

:gogirl:

Anywhere in Illinois, your opposite is in the sea in the central-eastern Indian Ocean.

Your nearest landmass is....

....Île Amsterdam - a small island in the French Southern and Antarctic Lands territory.

....and EVEN if you're meaning the nearest permanently populated settlement as opposed to an uninhabited island, you're STILL not going to Australia I'm afraid....

Your nearest settlement is....

Port-aux-Français in the Kergulen Islands - also in the French Southern and Antarctic Lands.

Kerguelen_Map.png

It's the 'capital' and you can see it under the very east peninsula there.

There is also the uninhabited Heard Island and McDonald Islands nearby.

I've checked Google Earth and measured the distance based on southern Illinois....

Kergulen is 1,150 miles away, but the nearest point in SW Australia is 1,450 miles away.

Glad to be of assistance.

Oh and check out gsdx's recent thread. I have added my own input. ..|
